Job Description

Buying ManagerCounty Durham£CompetitiveJackson Hogg Supply Chain division are exclusively partnering with an established FMCG organisation in County Durham on the appointment of a Buying Manager to join their supply chain team. This is a newly-created position for the business due to growth andrecently securing some substantial new work.This is a full time and permanent role offering some excellent benefits including: 1-2 days home working, bonus scheme and CIPS funding after probationary period.Working hours are Monday to Friday 09:00-17:00 or 08:00-16:00 depending on preference and holidays are 20 days plus bank holidays.Role Responsibilities for Buying Manager:

  • Developing and implementing purchasing strategies.
  • Managing daily purchasing activities, supervising staff, and allocating tasks.
  • Managing supplier relations and negotiating contracts, prices, timelines, etc.
  • Maintaining the supplier database, purchase records, and related documentation.
  • Coordinating with inventory control to determine and manage inventory, with a high degree of forecasting ahead of seasonal variations
  • Ensuring that all listed products meet the required quality standards and specifications requirements
  • Working to improve purchasing systems and processes.
  • Training new and developing existing employees in all aspects of the buying function
  • To enhance, progress and leverage supplier relationships
  • Deliver credible, insight led & actionable recommendations to support the growth of the business
  • Co-lead a stock management team alongside the category manager
  • Report KPI’s to the business at regular intervals
  • Constant liaison with all departments to ensure operational success
  • Manage the direct supply chain of the business maximising incentives, structuring deliveries, and minimising the cost of stock movements
  • Key point of contact for key customer accounts
Person Specification for Buying Manager:
  • Previous experience in procurement and supply chain roles
  • Dynamic and creative with analytical integrity
  • Forward thinking and proactive
  • Happy to have an opinion, to challenge and to be challenged
  • Key eye for detail for reporting and analysis
  • Logical thinker with excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to lead by example
  • Experience as a buying manager or similar role
  • Deep knowledge of inventory and supply chain management.
  • Supervisory and management experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and purchasing software.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong critical thinking and negotiation skills.
