Job Description

Playing akey role in maintaining and improving the quality of policing services is technology. Information and communication systems are deployed and in use across the Force to help ensure that accurate and reliable information is made available to those who need it,when they need it and where they need it.Agile working patterns apply to this position where informal agile working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.What do I need

  • Demonstrable experience of working in a 2nd line support role in an operational environment, supporting and maintaining server, backup and data centres
  • Demonstrable experience of administration and support of Active Directory
  • Demonstrable experience of administering and supporting Server Operating systems, specifically Microsoft Server and/or Linux, however knowledge of other systems would be beneficial.
  • Demonstrable experience of administering and supporting backup and recovery platforms (ideally Netbackup)
  • Planning and organising software rollouts, updates, outages to minimise service impact to the business.
  • Experience of planning for the upgrade of complex systems and roll back plans
  • Proven experience of identifying solutions to problems. Being able to articulate these into clear and understood - free from technical jargon - benefits to users and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under your own initiative, prioritising activity to meet the needs of the business, delivering a logical approach to service management and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of infrastructure suppliers/partners in the delivery of technical services.
  • Proven experience of working within a customer facing environment, being able to manage user expectation and conflict management.
  • Demonstrable experience of administering and supporting an ITMS Tool (ideally SCCM, SCOM)
  • Experience of scripting Languages (Ideally Powershell, VBscript)
The RoleAs a member of the Server and Backup Engineering team, you will be actively involved in the delivery of technical support services to users, system owners and project managers ensuring the effective installation, operation and maintenance of the forcewideserver and backup infrastructure estate, delivering an outstanding customer experience.You will carry out agreed maintenance, installation, refresh and patching activities and tasks to agreed and defined standards and will work as a key component of a wider infrastructure services team ensuring that expected service levels are met or exceeded,maximising system availability and delivering secure and resilient enterprise server and backup services. Your team will also be front and centre in ensuring the recovery of operational systems following any major incident events.What will I be doingYour day-to-day activities will
  • support the delivery of an effective incident management process, liasing with system users to understand their technical issues and implementing solutions and workarounds for them
  • support lifecycle management tasks and activities, checking, patching and running update jobs on the server and backup environments
  • be involved in project activity, liaising with project managers to understand and deliver their specific server and backup needs associated with their project deliverables.
