Why join usAs part of our business plan APEM Ltd are expanding our Ornithology Consultancy Team.The Ornithology Consultancy Team manage existing (and win new) field and desk-based studies collecting/collating, modelling and analysing bird data for a variety of projects, within terrestrial, intertidal and offshore ornithology work. The team works closelywith the wider APEM Group, using the most robust science to provide our clients with expert advice and the ability to interpret, assess and report on the key findings of bird data for use in our baseline characterisation, EIA and HRA projects across the globe.About the roleAs a Principal Ornithology Consultant (EIA) you will be working closely with the Associate Director and other Principal Consultants within the Ornithology Consultancy Team, wider Marine Division and other APEM teams to expand our workstreams, help to influenceand shape current work streams and expanding the current customer base across the UK, Europe and worldwide.You will be leading and contributing to securing and managing a wide range of small to large scale ornithology consultancy projects to increase our portfolio of services and clients. The role is also likely to involve management of staff and helping themachieve their potential through mentoring and training.We will also be looking for you to:

  • Work closely with the Principals, Associate Directors and Divisional Director to set and deliver the business strategies for the ornithology consultancy team, with a particular focus on EIA work.
  • Help lead and mentor a team of consultants, senior consultants and technical specialists to produce timely, accurate and high-quality products and services.
  • Be involved in all aspects of tender preparation including identifying new opportunities, writing proposals, setting budgets, programmes and scope alone, with other internal teams and in partnership with external organisations.
  • Project management of small and large scale projects with multidisciplinary teams based in various locations.
  • Be responsible for part of the output of the wider Ornithology Consultancy Team, reviewing and signing off reports, providing constructive feedback and coaching where required in order to achieve this.
About youYou will have excellent knowledge or ornithology/bird ecology and behaviour, including a working understanding of the UK planning process with respect to EIA and/or HRA requirements.You will have an established track record in the field of ornithology (onshore and/or intertidal and/or offshore) and bird ecology, derived from a relevant career in consultancy, research or working for government and be educated to at least degree, butpreferably MSc, level in a relevant discipline.Youll be passionate about ornithology and be able to engage with other like-minded specialists and non-specialist (regulators, clients, colleagues) individuals. Along with having excellent commercial awareness, preferably in a consultancy role and be ableto showcase leadership skills and an ability for strategic thinking to support the team in a fast-paced environment.This role is offered on a remote basis with ad-hoc visits to APEM offices for meeting or to client sites, we are open to you being based anywhere in the UK.
