Why join usOurteam is growing, and we are looking for a Principal Consultantto work within the Water Quality teamas part of APEMs Freshwater Biology Consultancy Division.Our Water Quality teamprovides water and sediment quality monitoring, analysis and interpretation services. Biological water quality analysis (e.g. through use of macroinvertebrates - SOAF) also features regularly. We also coordinate APEMs response topollution incidents. A large, and growing, part of our work is algal bloom and taste and odour compound assessment and management. We also offer Ecological Clerk of Works services.About the roleIn this role you will be leading and input on the delivery of APEMs water and sediment quality projects, including financial management. Leading and input on the delivery of cross team/divisional projects will also form a key part of this role.Youll also beundertaking client meetings, site visits and field surveys where required andproviding technical input to projects and tenders.We will discuss and agree any line management responsibilities and you will also be providing mentoring, support and guidance to senior and consultant grade scientists. With regards sales and marketing activity you will work with the team to identify opportunitiesfor new work.About youEssential

  • Typically at least 5 years professional experience.
  • Experience of working in a commercial consulting environment.
  • Knowledgeable in water and sediment quality assessment and management including at least one of the following: water quality impact assessments, modelling, reservoir management, catchment management, algal blooms, taste and odour, lake nutrient budgeting,and lake restoration.
  • Proficient at project management.
  • Proficient at tendering/proposal writing including costing work.
  • An understanding of key UK environmental legislation.
  • Excellent Excel and Word skills.
  • Excellent data management and analysis skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Driving licence.
Desirable
  • A relevant higher degree.
  • Experience in project management of large, high profile or complex projects.
  • Statistical analysis and modelling of large and complex environmental data sets.
  • Line management experience.
  • Professional accreditation or working towards it.
