Job Description

SEN Teaching AssistantJob Type: Long term supply, Temp (potential permanency for the right candidate)Location: Ely, CardiffPay: £80-£90 per dayStart date: September 2023We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join our team. As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with diverse learning needs and ensuring they receive the best educationalexperience possible.Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with special needs, including those with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), or physical disabilities.
  • Assist the classroom teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior management strategies.
  • Support students in their academic, social, and emotional development, promoting their independence and self-esteem.
  • Adapt teaching materials and activities to meet the unique needs of each student, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.
  • Help students with personal care tasks, such as toileting, feeding, and mobility, as required.
  • Collaborate with the teacher and other professionals, such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and psychologists, to address individual student needs effectively.
  • Monitor and record student progress, behavior, and achievements, and provide feedback to the teacher and parents/guardians.
  • Foster a safe and inclusive learning environment, promoting positive behavior and respectful interactions among students.
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities to enhance your knowledge and skills in special education.
Qualifications:
  • Previous experience working with individuals with special needs is highly desirable.
  • A passion for working with children and making a positive difference in their lives.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with students, teachers, parents/guardians, and other professionals.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations.
  • Knowledge of various special educational needs and relevant teaching strategies.
  • Ability to adapt and modify teaching approaches and materials based on individual student needs.
  • Basic understanding of behavior management techniques and strategies.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Relevant certifications or training in special education or related fields will be an advantage.
