Job Description

Summary Are you a proven manager of collections or houses Can you bring your conservation knowledge to this close knit team We need someone who can champion fantastic collections care and practise, visitor welcome and the day to day operation of managing volunteersto give great experiences.Accommodation is provided to the postholder for the proper or better performance of their duties in accordance with Trust criteria and HMRC rules. What its like to work here Youll report to the Property Operations Manager, who is based at Coughton and manages the whole site day to day.Youll work closely with our Collections and House officer, to care for our diverse collection and the interiors, in a team with two Collections Assistants. Youll also work closely with the Operations Manager, Facilities Manager and a Project Manager toprepare for the removal and repair of Coughtons roof over 3 phases from September 2023 until 2025.Coughton Court is one of Englands finest Tudor houses and has been home to the Throckmorton family for 600 years. Coughton has fine collections of furniture, family portraits and Catholic memorabilia which help us share the story of One House, One Family,One Faith - a familys struggle to remain true to its faith. The house is set in award-winning gardens including the spectacular Walled Garden and orchards. Click here for more information about this location What youll be doing As the senior lead of the House Team, youll manage a team of Collections & House Officers, Collections Assistants and volunteers to implement preventive conservation and cleaning programmes in the house to ensure excellent standards of care, deliveringstrategies to improve conservation. Youll be responsible for the planning and implementation of conservation projects, collections care and daily opening of the house ensuring appropriate resources are in place to provide a consistent and excellent visitorexperience.Youll collect and accurately record information to inform our understanding of the house and the collection and use preventive conservation techniques to improve how we conserve, interpret and present the property. Leading by example youll ensure a cultureof excellent customer care, engaging our visitors with conservation and the values and behaviours of the National Trust. Who were looking for Wed love to hear from you, if you:

  • Have a good understanding of Museum Accreditation standards, Health and Safety and Emergency Procedures
  • Can demonstrate a working knowledge of preventive conservation and its practical, strategic application in the form of routine and deep cleaning programmes
  • Have exceptional people management skills and experience of working with and managing volunteers
  • Have operational experience of collections management and care in an historic environment
  • Are well organised and attentive to detail
  • Have excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Have an understanding of environmental monitoring systems, such as Hanwell
  • Have an understanding of or interest in archaeological collections
