Our property team might be small but what it does is pretty mighty: caring for our buildings, interiors and collections whilst welcoming120,000 visitors on 180 days between March and November each year. Please contact us at .uk, when you apply, to let usknow, quoting the reference number for this vacancy.As part of the House team, youll report to the Senior Collections & House Officer, working with our Collections Assistants and Conservation Volunteers, as well as our House Experience Volunteers.Coughton Court is a Tudor house and has been home to the Throckmorton family for 600 years and continues to be as they still live in the North wing of the house. Coughton has a collection of furniture; family portraits and Catholic memorabilia which helpus share the story of ‘One House, One Family, One Faith -a family’s struggle to remain true to its faith’ The house is set in award-winning gardens including a spectacular Walled Garden and Orchards.This season we are preparing the storage of our collections for a £3.3 million project to remove the South Wing and Tower roof starting autumn 2023. The immediate challenge is packing our collections ready for the removal and repair of the roof along withsignificant repairs to the rest of the house roof, windows and internal gutters. This will require a creative approach and willingness to balance risk, access and conservation well: providing a unique opportunity to contribute to a major and very complex project.As part of this project we’re planning for the removal of the Tabula Eliensis by crane winch through the open Tower roof and then stabilisation, rehousing and redisplay in a purpose-built case. Click here for more information about this location What youll be doing You’ll be responsible for the daily opening of the house, ensuring appropriate resources are in place to be able to provide a consistently excellent service for our visitors. Working with a team of Collection Assistants, youll supervise the team responsiblefor implementing conservation routines, preventive conservation and annual deep cleaning programme within the house to ensure excellent standards of care, delivering strategies to improve conservation.Youll collect and record information during housekeeping cleaning routines to inform our understanding of the house and the collection, and use preventive conservation techniques to improve how we conserve, interpret and present the property. You’ll enjoytelling visitors about our fascinating history, sharing tales from the past as well as your personal experience of working here. Who were looking for Wed love to hear from you, if you:

  • Have knowledge of customer care and approaches to optimising visitor enjoyment
  • Are a good team player with day to day line management and supervisory skills
  • Have good interpersonal skills enabling relationships to be maintained
  • Have some knowledge and experience of managing costs and expenditure
  • Are willing to contribute original or imaginative ways to make elements of the collection or house that are difficult to reach accessible to all visitors.
