Job Description

GROUP FINANCIAL ACCOUNTANT MATERNITY COVER - FIXED TERM 12-18 MONTHSGENEROUS SALARY + LEADING BENEFITS / DAY RATE EQUIVALENT AVAILABLE Marks Sattin are delighted to be working exclusively with Harworth Group to recruit this Group Financial Accountant Contract role.Harworth Group plc is one of the leading land and property regeneration companies in the UK, owning and managing approximately 14,000 acres on around 100 sites in the North of England and the Midlands.Harworth Group create sustainable places for people to live and work, delivering thousands of new jobs and homes in the regions.Their flagship sites, such as Waverley in Rotherham and Logistics North in Bolton, are of national economic significance and are at the forefront of the regeneration of the UK.THE ROLEThis position is maternity cover for the Group Financial Accountant. As a rapidly growing business this position offers scope to develop your skills in a very friendly organisation and reporting into qualified finance professionals. The successful candidatewill undertake a varied role including financial accounts, tax compliance and ad hoc projects. You will take an integral role within the finance team, managing two direct reports and reporting into the Head of Finance and Reporting as well as working withthe wider business.THE JOBRoles and responsibilities include:

  • Team leader for the financial reporting team. Coaching and developing two direct reports.
  • Management of the Groups external reporting timetable, planning for year end and half year reporting and project management of external reporting workstreams
  • Preparation and review of Group financial statements that form a significant part of the annual reports (annually)
  • Preparation and review of the Group financial statements within the Stock exchange announcements (bi-annually)
  • Review of the statutory accounts for all subsidiaries and joint ventures under FRS101 and FRS102 respectively
  • key contact and management of the annual audit and other projects as required, answering questions from external auditors and advisors
  • Ownership and review of audit schedules
  • Ensuring accurate representation of accounts data through completion of reconciliations, and maintenance of data quality
  • Review of balance sheet reconciliations, escalating risks and issues
  • Drive continuous improvement in on-going processes; appropriately addressing issues and managing change efficiently
  • Preparation of Group VAT returns, including submission of options to tax and maintenance of the option to tax register
  • Review of joint venture VAT returns
  • Point of contact with external tax advisors for Corporation Tax compliance and returns for all Group companies
  • Point of contact with external tax advisors for Capital allowance claims for all group companies
  • Preparation of technical accounting papers for internal review and for provision to the external auditors and review of the accounting treatment for transactions
THE PERSON
  • You will be a ACA/ACCA qualified accountant with a strong technical knowledge
  • Experience of the application of IFRS with a good understanding of the external reporting requirements of a UK listed entity
  • First class inter-personal and communication skills are essential, a high degree of IT literacy (particularly with Excel) required and a committed approach with an attitude of being willing to go the extra mile when necessary
  • Experience of managing, coaching and developing a team is essential
  • Commercially aware, you enjoy working with a friendly, positive team of people who are committed to making a difference
  • You will be proactive, organised, flexible and have a meticulous attention to detail.
  • You will need the ability to use own judgement and initiative to anticipate and investigate queries where necessary
  • Experience of working in a fast paced and changeable environment
  • A desire to drive improvements that help finance support the wider group to meet its ambitions through providing timely and accurate internal reporting
  • Experience of the property sector is desirable but not essential
  • Experience of accounting packages and accounts production software is also desirable but not essential
