The successful applicant will form part of a close knit, dynamic commercial team and will be required to support the Commercial Managerand the wider commercial team in maximising commercial value, reducing risk to the business and assisting with the delivery of all specific business outputs and targets. The Quantity Surveyor role is responsible for a portfolio of replacement projects andcontracts ranging between £10k to £500k. The role entails pre and post commercial management outlined in the Key Duties section below.The QS role will be full time and will involve a mixture of both home, office and depot working. The QS will also be expected to travel to the North area on a weekly basis (North Tyne, Cumbria) with the main depots being in Burradon and Carlisle. There willalso be a requirement to visit the site works as and when the need arises.The projects are predominantly based on a bespoke NEC Option A and E contracts and we are looking for someone who is proactive in administering the contract, is commercially astute and can present commercial challenge with facts and data. Excellent communicationand interpersonal skills are also important to us.Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Cost estimation of projects which include replacement, reinforcements and diversions,
  • Preparation of internal commercial reporting and other reports,
  • Challenge & manage cost control and provide cost mitigation measures where appropriate,
  • Management of projects in accordance with internal budgets,
  • Undertake contract administration, including change management and maintain associated registers,
  • Negotiation and agreement of prices, change events, extension of time claims, final accounts within the timescales required,
  • Measurement of quantities and pricing of work as required,
  • Identifying commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and change,
  • Ensure appropriate contractor relationship is initiated and maintained,
  • Assessment of applications for payment in accordance with the contract and issuing of pay less notices,
  • Drafting of contract arrangement and appropriate terms of engagement,
  • Undertaking monthly accruals and forecasting for the business,
  • Compliance with NGN governance, policies and procedures.
About you:
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years Assistant Quantity Surveying/ Quantity Surveying or otherwise appropriate experience,
  • Previous gas industry experience is preferable, utility sector experience is essential,
  • Must work well with others and form strong relationships within the team,
  • Commercially astute with good knowledge of all NEC Forms of Contract,
  • Excellent organisation and record keeping skills,
  • Computer literate with strong skills in Microsoft Office Applications (Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint),
  • Good communication skills including the ability to negotiate and communicate clearly with others,
  • Full UK driving License.
