Job Description

We are currently seeking a Transport Planner who will be responsible for the planning of the transportation of all outgoing orders, making sure supply is cost effective, and that scheduling and monitoring of customers orders is efficient and accurate. Thisrole is for a leading manufacturer, that supply a range of products to the construction and civil engineering sectors.Hours: 07:00 to 16:30 / 07:30 to 17:00 Mon to FriSalary: £27,000 to £30,000 basic salary per annum, depending on experienceThis is NOT a call centre role; you will be based in a distribution office working alongside the Customer Service team.The key responsibilities of the Transport Planner are:

  • Meeting customers requirements whilst keeping them informed on any changes, delays or problems
  • Be proactive and innovative
  • Managing your region efficiently making sure orders are fulfilled on time
  • Liaising with your fellow planners to make sure planning is achievable at multiple locations
  • Making sure area budgets are adhered to
  • Understanding your regions capacities and what trucks they can manage
  • Liaising regularly with production about their workload and the daily schedule
  • Always aiming for a resolution through the first call
  • Being accountable for your actions, setting realistic customer expectations
  • Add relevant notes to enquiries detailing any correspondence with the customer
  • Communicate effectively between commercial, production and haulage partners
  • Schedule and reschedule orders whilst utilising haulage fleet effectively
The key skills needed to be a successful Transport Planner include:
  • Excellent IT knowledge
  • Calm under pressure and resilient
  • Influencing and rapport building skills
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and work to a high level of accuracy
  • A natural curiosity and interest in other departments and ways of working
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Previous relevant Transport Planner experience
  • A good eye for detail
  • Ability to work with a small team
  • Excellent written and communication skills are also essential
