Job Description

I am currently recruiting for an experienced Health & Safety Officer to work within the Higher Education industry in Altrincham on a temporary basis initially however with a potential to go permanent.The successful candidate will start in February with a starting salary of between £32,000 and £34,000.The Job PurposeTo take the lead in implementing and monitoring all aspects of health and safety within the Group.Take a lead in ensuring that appropriate and safe systems of work are in place during any building projects including the redevelopment of a new campus.Key Accountabilities1. Successfully promote a culture of safety awareness across the organisation.2. Plan and implement appropriate actions to ensure that there is a complete and accurate central record of risk assessments in place across the organisation.3. Ensure all contractors undertake safe systems of work and comply with all relevant Health & Safety legislation and regulations while working on sites across the organisation.4. Lead on building safety requirements during the redevelopment projecting, developing effective, pro-active and positive relationships with building contractors to ensure the sites remain operational and safe whilst building works are being undertaken.5. Take a lead role in developing a travel plan for the organisation.Desired skills and qualifications

  • Diploma in Safety Management (NEBOSH or equivalent)
  • Be a qualified first aider
  • Experience in working in Health and Safety management within a complex environment with a varied risk profile
  • Experience of taking a lead health and safety role during major building projects
  • Experience of developing and delivering Health & Safety training
  • Experience of monitoring, inspection and auditing
  • Experience of accident investigation
  • Experience of undertaking Fire Risk Assessments
  • Experience of developing and implementing Business Continuity Plans
  • Experience of supervising others
  • Extensive knowledge of Health & Safety Management across a range of applications including Building & Construction sites
  • Ability to communicate succinctly and act decisively in highly demanding situations
  • Up to date knowledge of Health & Safety legislation
  • IT skills with working knowledge of Microsoft office software
  • An awareness and understanding of Health and Safety in the workplace
  • Be an effective team member by supporting colleagues, being approachable and a good listener
  • Have a positive track record of developing excellent professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders including internal managers, external building design team and contractors
