Summary Come and join our great team as a Technical Demonstrator.Youll be joining a team of 13 other Technical Demonstrators, working with a daily team of five. The role combines running the textile machinery whilst interacting with the visitors, tour and school groups. Youll be describing what it was like to work inthe mill during the 18thand 19thcenturies, whilst also explaining how the machines process the cotton from bale to thread to cloth. Youll also be contributing to the manufacturing of cloth on our historic machinery which is sold in our shop. Our cloth isunique to Quarry Bank and sets us apart from other historical places of interest.Youll join us on a permanent part time contract working 3 days per week including Saturdays.If you have any questions about this role please contact: .ukInterviews will be held 13th March. Today, visitors can step back in time with a tour of the Mill, Quarry Bank House, Apprentice House and workers cottage as wellas strolling through the historic gardens, woodland and Styal Village.Its a friendly team of full and part time staff and over 400 volunteers working together on the property.Click here for more information about this location What youll be doing The role includes demonstrating our textile machinery to public visitors and education groups, contributing to the manufacturing of thread and cloth and the maintenance of textile machinery. The successful applicant will need to demonstrate experience ofworking in a team, knowledge of health & safety and a background in interpretation. A creative background with an eye for detail as well as a practical experience working with textiles and a working knowledge/or interest in textile machinery would be preferable.The role involves regular weekend working.Training will be given by the more experienced team members. This training will start in the hand spinning and weaving area, learning to spin on a spinning wheel and weave on our hand looms. Youll learn to maintain the textile machinery which includes cleaning,oiling and repairs.Over time you will learn to run all the textile machinery. Personal development is important, this includes furthering your knowledge of the machinery and the history of Quarry Bank, developing onto training others and supporting out Technical volunteersand Mill entrance volunteers. Who were looking for Ideally youll haveDemonstrable practical experience of working with textilesWorking knowledge and /or interest of textile machinery and its maintenanceExperience in interpretation and / or delivery of events in the tourism or heritage industryStrong verbal communication skills including public presentation and the ability to communicate in an engaging and informative manner with a wide range of peopleGood people skills enabling strong relationships both internally and externallyExperience of working with the general public.
