Job Description

Overview and Responsibilities Therapy Assistant – HedgewayLocation:Pilning, Bristol, BS35 4JNSalary:£19,654.80 - £21,441.60 (FTE £22,880.00 - £24,960.00)Hours: 40 hours per week – Term time onlyClosing Date: 10th July 2023Aurora Hedgeway is a dynamic and inspiring provision for children and young people aged 7-19 with a primary or secondary diagnosis of Autism and related social and communication needs.We offer every student the chance to explore and fulfil their own unique potential. With provision running from Key Stage 2 all the way through to post-16, we are set up to support children and young people at every stage of their academic journey.The main purpose of the role:As our Therapy Assistant, you will be Responsible for the implementation of Occupational Therapy and Educational Psychologist advised interventions in a Specialist SEN secondary School setting.You will implement and review therapy interventions as identified by the Therapy Team, through assessment and as set out as part of a Statement of Special Educational Needs or Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), to enable students to fulfil their potentialin all aspects of their lives. These will include occupational therapy interventions as well as sensory and creative activities such as therapeutic art activitiesKey duties:

  • Work effectively with teachers and key staff across the secondary setting, including the SENCo and Management Team to understand the student and their needs and develop and implement effective interventions both in and outside of lessons
  • Develop appropriate profiles on all appropriate children with the Occupational Therapist and therapy team
  • Work to develop integrated ‘Push in’ methods in the classroom, only ‘pulling children out’ to one to one sessions, where absolutely necessary
  • Liaise effectively with teachers, the Occupational Therapist, Educational Psychologist and the SENCO such that best practice is evidenced throughout the whole curriculum.
  • To be accountable for the delivery of Occupational Therapy and other regulation programmes as advised by the Occupational Therapist and/or therapy team.
  • To engage in relevant training as advised by the Occupational Therapist to ensure ongoing professional development.
Duties will vary, you must expect to diversify and lend a hand wherever is required.Skills and Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Supporting individual development and care plans and assisting individuals in accordance with their needs and wishes, particularly their mobility, physical management and postural management.
  • Previous experience of a specialist setting and/or working with young people in education particularly those with Special Educational Needs.
  • Experience running interventions, with measureable impact (desirable).
  • Recognised Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths.
  • A strong desire to make a difference to young people.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including report writing.
  • Driving Licence
