Job Description

Assistant PsychologistEssential Criteria: Psychology degreeLocation: Aurora Hedgeway SchoolContract Type: Permanent – Part TimeHours: 16 hours per week, 39 weeks – Term time.Salary: £22,440 FTEThe Aurora GroupWe are currently looking for an experienced Assistant Psychologist to work as part of our therapy team who look after Aurora’s Hedgeway School.Aurora Hedgeway School provides flexible day placements for children and young people with communication and associated difficulties. Students may be on the autistic spectrum, have Asperger’s Syndrome or other difficulties that impact their emotional health and wellbeing and create barriers to learning.The Role:By becoming an Aurora Assistant Phycologist, you will be choosing a truly rewarding career. You will be helping provide a Clinical Psychologist Assessment and Intervention Service for Hedgeway School. We are looking for people with a passion to positively change the lives of the children young people that we work with.Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Sending out Microsoft Forms to parents/sitting with young people supporting them to complete standardised questionnaires. Scoring questionnaire responses accurately and summarising the information.
  • Carrying out cognitive assessments (using the Wechsler Intelligence Scale) and other standardised assessments as appropriate with young people who may find it difficult to engage/attend to an assessment process.
  • Drawing out key information from young peoples’ background history and documents /reports relating to a child.
  • Assisting staff to write clear risk assessments. Assisting the team around the child to understand a young person’s behaviour (using a PBS framework).
  • Closely observing young people, their behaviour and their interactions with others within the classroom and within less structured environments. Writing clear and very detailed notes on your observations.
  • Ensuring that your notes are well organised and storage ensures data protection
  • Carrying out ‘skills’ teaching sessions with children based using a Positive Behavioural Support framework.
  • Working with staff groups to increase understanding of evidence based clinical practice.
  • Working within a Multidisciplinary Team.
  • Delivering co-facilitated groups (with a teacher) using the PEERS programme and the Decider Skills within classrooms.
  • Evaluating these interventions and summarising the evaluation data.
  • Researching and collating evidence based information regarding specific presenting difficulties (e.g. selective mutism, anxiety and PDA).
  • Attending and contributing to weekly therapy meetings at Hedgeway School.
  • Assisting with and independently running training sessions for staff.
  • Experience:Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:
  • Psychology Degree
  • An understanding of Autistic
  • Experience of using excel and Microsoft 365 including SharePoint.
  • Experience of working with ASD.
  • Working with multi-disciplinary team
