Job Description

About the role:You will be working as part of the Operations team in a very hands-on role and fast paced role, which includes both the effluent and sludge stream. You will be reporting to the Site Performance Manager for carrying out the operation and front-line maintenance functions on the effluent and sludge streams, to produce effluent within consent, generate renewable energy and compliant sludge cake.To achieve this, you will gather data, operate and optimise the plant in order to achieve and maintain this compliance and hit targets.This is a very hands-on role working at Chertsey STW on the effluent stream and Thermal Hydrolysis Sludge Treatment Plant.Key Accountabilities:

  • The operation of power generation plant and equipment, including large steam-producing boilers.
  • Sampling, testing, basic maintenance and fault-finding of the plant and equipment.
  • The monitoring, collating and reporting of data to ensure statutory and regulatory compliance is met.
  • Undertaking safety and security checks and housekeeping, demonstrating site pride and adopting a zero-compromise approach to health and safety.
  • Excellent communication and liaison with the wider site team and those working on the effluent process to ensure the entire site runs seamlessly.
  • Taking part in a 1-week standby roster every 6 weeks to ensure 24/7 cover for the site.
  • Undertaking critical industry training, including the Boiler Operator Accreditation Scheme (BOAS).
  • To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:
  • The successful candidate should have experience in a relevant power generation environment. Knowledge of the process/engineering industry plant such as pumps, gearboxes, industrial boilers, dewatering plant etc., would be an advantage.
  • The most essential competencies will be your communication, determination, flexibility, initiative, ability and willingness to train.
  • As well as this, you must be prepared to be trained in safety procedures including Confined Space Entry and Boiler Operation Accreditation (BOAS).
  • You must have basic literacy and numeracy skills as well as the completion of NVQ level 2 units as a minimum (or equivalent).
  • Some computer data input or enquiry experience is desirable.
