Job Description

Summary If you want a career in Gardening, we can offer you some of the most beautiful outdoor spaces in the UK to work in as well as one of the largest plant collections in Europe.Youll be based at Hanbury Hall working mainly in the gardens, but also in the park. The role will also include working at Greyfriars (Worcester) and other portfolio properties, if required.Please note: Weekend work will be required.Due to the location of our property, there is no public transport access and therefore we would encourage you to consider how you would commute here prior to applying. What its like to work here At Hanbury Hall youll be working alongside our Volunteers, who you will need to be comfortable with leading, in the day-to-day maintenance tasks.Hanbury Hall gardens, of around 20 acres, is surrounded by 393 acres of park.They feature a restored George London garden, designed at the turn of the eighteenth century. This consists of a Parterre, Fruit Garden, Vegetable Garden, Wilderness and BowlingGreen. We also have a Victorian Mushroom House with wonderful slate beds in which the mushrooms used to be grown, and two areas of the garden that are managed to organic standards and are certified organic. We need to look after all these areas to a high standardof presentation for visitors. Weeding, hedge-cutting or mowing is the backbone to achieving this.Greyfriars has a small garden in the centre of Worcester, where you will help the other Gardeners and Volunteers maintain it, as part of a seasonal rota. Click here for more information about this location What youll be doing As a hands-on Gardener, youll assist in making sure that the gardens are maintained to a high standard. Youll be enthused and knowledgeable about the varied plants within the garden. This role will include a range of practical horticultural tasks to develop,enhance and conserve the garden and contribute to the delivery of projects. Youll be helping with hard and soft landscaping and general maintenance of the garden, such as mulching, pruning, leaf clearing and weeding. Youll support with the planting and maintenanceof trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants. Youll be helping to cut the hedges and mow our fine lawns. Youll also take ownership of specific areas of the garden ensuring the highest standards are maintained and healthy plants are available for our visitors to enjoy.Youll also support garden volunteers and help them to make the most of their time here. Youll be expected to interact with the public on a daily basis, answering the many questions, or help out with gardening workshops, tours and helping set up eventswhen needed.Please also read the full role profile attached to this advert Who were looking for To be successful in this role you should be able to demonstrate the below:

  • Trained as a professional gardener/horticulturalist with a good level of practical experience.
  • RHS Level 2 or equivalent
  • Have a strong knowledge of plants
  • Confidence to participate in garden activities and events
  • Competence with machinery/equipment use and maintenance; including tractors, chainsaws, and pedestrian mowers with accreditation as required for Health and Safety compliance.
