Job Description

Join Close Brothers Risk Team where you will have significant credit approval experience relating to financial institutions and sits within the Bank Underwriting Shared Service Team which is led by the Bank Head of Underwriting. The Bank Head of Underwritingis the key risk owner of credit risk across the Bank, with a duty for maintaining credit risk in line with stated appetite. This role reports to the Head of Underwriting. The role holder is primarily accountable for the preparation and approval of credit papers for exposures related to Sovereigns, Banks, Insurance companies and other Non-Bank Financial Institutions. Therole holder will work closely with Group Treasury and the Asset and Liability Management (ALM) Risk Team to manage the credit risk associated with the treasury activities. In addition, the role holder will assist the underwriting of exposures in the Finance business, including insurer and broker reviews. The role holder will operate within a delegate credit authority which will be allocated based on experience. RESPONSIBILITIESGeneral

  • Interpret and extract key points and trends from external publications; financial reports and accounts of Sovereigns, Banks, Insurance companies and other Non-Bank Financial Institutions and prepare accurate written credit analysis and recommendations.
  • Produce comprehensive but succinct credit papers of a quality which can be approved within own delegated discretion or be presented to the relevant approval authority for approval.
  • Work closely with Group Treasury and the Asset and Liability (ALM) Risk Team to manage the credit risk associated with the treasury activities.
  • Assist the definition of Treasury risk appetite and the associated monitoring and reporting process. Prepare and present proposals to the relevant approval body.

  • Work with Group Treasury and the Asset and Liability (ALM) Risk Team to manage credit risk associated with the treasury activities.
  • Builds effective relationships with originating teams through continuous two-way communication.

  • The role uses skills and experience to influence the structuring of new opportunities to mitigate risk and ensure compliance with Bank and Business Credit Policies.
  • Ensure that all Governance and Compliance requirements are adhered to and all reporting and reviewing activities required by the Regulatory Bodies are carried out to the standards needed.

  • Good credit analysis skills.
  • Prior analysis and underwriting of Sovereigns, Banks, Insurance companies and Non-Bank Financial Institutions in a financial services environment.
  • Good interactive and influencing skills.
  • Good written and presentational skills.
  • Sound appreciation of security/legal/documentation risk.
  • Ability to interpret complex financial statements and other related publications.
  • An awareness of macro-economic climate.
  • Ability to work under time pressure while maintaining high quality standards.
  • An awareness of products commonly associated with financial counterparties, for example:
  1. Understanding of the risks associated with Derivatives as well as associated exposure methodologies such as Standardised Approach for Counterparty Credit Risk (SACCR) and Current Exposure Method (CEM).
  2. An awareness of the risks associated with Covered Bonds
