Job Description

Development ManagerHybrid Role(2-3 days a week in Crewe)My client an industry leader within their field is currently recruiting an experienced Development Manager, you will work closely with the Development team and have responsibility for the planning and co-ordination projects, managing, mentoring and recruitinga growing team of developers. this is an exciting time to join the organisation with plans to double in size within the next 5 years.Technical analysis, development, projects, and support are the key to everything we do to deliver success and innovation at Radius.You will be expected to develop an excellent understanding of the complex architecture and functionality of the IT landscape to assess change impact, direct development teams and advise on business and technical initiatives. Whilst it is helpful to havehands-on development experience with modern technologies (C#, Java, Python, and more), the planning and team leading elements of this role are considerably more important to the client.This is a hybrid role ideally seeing you on site 3 days a weekTypical work activities will include:

  • Working with business stakeholders to proactively identify new business opportunities and introduce new technologies.
  • Work with the Head of Development and development team leads to analyse projects and ad-hoc change requests prior to scheduling.
  • Manage the scheduling and delivery of development tasks, ensuring project managers, business analysts, developers and IT management are aware of priorities and issues.
  • Assist with task estimation and track project progress across Python, Java and .NET based application pipelines, providing regular updates to Head of Development.
  • Manage a growing team of developers, providing day-to-day leadership and technical support both in person and remotely, depending on the circumstances
  • Line management responsibilities involve setting up team/individual objectives, regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and developing PDPs for career progression of the direct reports.
  • Act as point of escalation for application-level issues, with some out of hours support required when necessary.
The essential skills/attributes are:
  • Experience of managing a development pipeline using issue tracking and project management tools such as Jira.
  • Experience of allocating development tasks to developers based on skills, availability, task priorities etc.
  • Ability to understand complex business processes and to understand how systems have been architected to support these processes in order that system change requests can be assessed.
  • Ability to communicate development progress and set clear stakeholder expectations within IT and the wider business.
  • Experience of managing multiple development teams while focusing on the key deliverables.
  • Ability to build a strong rapport with colleagues and influence strategic delivery.
Particular skills / aptitude required:
  • Experience of working in a software implementation environment while following the correct engineering practices and standards, and a solid understanding of the SDLC.
  • Pragmatic approach with focus on business delivery.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Professional approach and an understanding of business ethics.
