Job Description

Hillarys are actively seeking a Systems Administrator with a strong VMware, SAP and Wintel background to join our team. The Service Infrastructure team, amongst other things, is responsible for over 290 servers, of which 95% are virtualised. Hillarys core ERP and CRM systems are SAP, these run on SUSE Linux in a VMware virtual environment.This position will directly report to the Service Infrastructure Manager and will concentrate on the administration and management of our virtual and physical environment, including end-user computing experience, along with the support and management of all supporting infrastructure. It is essential that you have the desire to provide a seamless end user experience, by owning a technical issue from start to finish, working closely with the Service Desk and Infrastructure colleagues to deliver a high level of support to the business which will include liaising directly with end users when required to support investigation.This role will be responsible for the installation, configuration, and management of various technologies, including the following:

  • VMware vSphere
  • PURE SAN technology (Active Cluster, SNAP Shots)
  • SAP Basis
  • Microsoft OS: Server 2008 onwards
  • Veeam Backup and Replication
  • iSCSI, NFS, FCoE protocols
  • SUSE Linux
  • Active Directory
    • Essential Job Functions
  • Taking responsibility and ownership of technical issues from start to finish, engaging with colleagues and liaising with end users to provide a seamless end user experience.
  • Troubleshoot performance issues with virtual server platforms, documenting findings.
  • Deliver system performance enhancements to existing systems and infrastructure, in particular working closely with the SAP teams to enhance the end user SAP experience.
  • Provide recommended actions to adhere to management best practices with existing infrastructure.
  • Deploy new infrastructure adhering to recommended best practices.
  • Manage and support OS level, Server and Client-side applications, associated hardware, and other relevant IT services.
  • Provide 2nd level support for applications and OS related issues while mentoring 1st level ServiceDesk staff.
  • Generate operations reports related to system capacity and utilization along with predicted growth and capacity requirements.
  • Regularly review system logs for issue prevention, provide timely resolution to discovered issues.
  • Schedule and perform regular systems maintenance, including host, VM, and application updates including vSwitches, DRS etc.
  • Perform data backup operations and maintain the Virtual backup environment.
  • Manage and complete assigned tasks and tickets in a timely and proficient manner while documenting work completed.
  • Perform advanced Active Directory domain-related maintenance tasks.
  • Assists with planning and implementation of successful DR strategy to include regular DR testing.
  • Apply patches, update and upgrades to servers, workstations and stored images.
    • Work Conditions and Physical Demands:
  • Partake in out of hours work and provide out of hours support via an on-call rotation.
  • Primarily sedentary work in a general office environment.
  • Ability to communicate and exchange information.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret documents and data.
  • Requires occasional standing, walking, lifting, and moving objects (20 to 50 lbs.).
  • Requires manual dexterity to use computer, telephone and peripherals.
  • May be required to work extended hours for special business needs.
  • May be required to travel to remote sites based on business needs, at times on short notice.
    • Qualifications
  • Education to degree standard preferred
    • Skills & KnowledgeTechnical:
  • Extensive VMWare experience – preferable VCP-DCV in vSphere 6.
  • Extensive Veeam backup and replication experience – preferable version 9.
  • Good Linux experience, preferable SUSE version 12.
  • Extensive Microsoft Active Directory / DNS / Exchange.
  • SAP Basis
  • Palo Alto firewall technology.
  • HP Blade technology.
  • Enterprise storage systems, PURE.
  • HP Networking.
  • Competent in supporting various Operating Systems, Windows, Linux.
  • Microsoft SQL.
  • Any exposure to Citrix is beneficial
  • AWS Administration:
  • Creating / Mdifying DNS records in Route 53 or Cloudflare
  • Deplying Instances in EC2
  • Creating S3 Buckets
  • Creating VPCs
  • Mdifying & Creating security rules / opening ports
  • Managing dmains and redirects
    • General
  • Excellent communicator with good relationship management and influencing skills not just across internal teams but external as well.
  • Excellent organisational skills and disciplined attention to detail with the ability to work under own initiative.
