And its why were the UKs No. 1 choice for business waste managementHelp us make a difference as an Operations Manager.A quick look at the role.Were on the hunt for an Operations Manager who will be a key leader at our Depot.The role will report into the General Manager and the Operations Manager will have full control of all parts of the day to day running and management of the site.The Operations Manager will have 2 direct reports; Senior Dispatcher and Transport Manager and they will support in ensuring that the depot deliver first class customer service in line with business KPIs, Health and Safety compliance, Environmental compliance,O Licence compliance and financial control.The role also plays a fundamental role in ensuring the depot is promoting employee engagement, continuous improvement identification and management in productivity and quality and operational changes to support/improve business growth and best in class performance.The Operations Manager forms part of the Senior Management Team in the Midlands and there is the expectation of presenting plans around day to day control and future plans in depot and regional meetings. The main aspiration is to double the size of the businessand Operations Manager will play a significant role in this.Why its an opportunity not to be wasted.

  • Monitoring, managing and co-ordinating on a daily basis, all depot-based resources to ensue an increase in operational productivity and improved quality of service provided.
  • Identifying and driving best practice and continuous improvement in cost control and productivity.
  • Ensuring effective planning and resource management for the mobilisation of new business and seasonal changes for Bank Holidays to ensure the routes are optimised according to customer requirements.
  • Managing, motivating and developing the team of driver and staff as a whole by identifying and sharing best practice.
  • Managing and ensuring compliancy of Health & Safety, Environmental Legislation, Employment Legislation and Company Policy to ensure defined standards and best practice are adhered to.
  • Agreeing, monitoring and managing the full depot P&L budget and supporting year on year growth of the depot and actively seeking to improve efficiency, reducing operating costs and increasing margin to meet set budget targets.
  • Working within cross-divisional teams to provide integrated waste solutions, using best practice and through continuous improvement.
  • Providing leadership and monitor performance of the traffic dispatcher team while reviewing depot KPIs around Service, Safety and Profitability.
  • Dealing effectively with underperformance and absence management by managing disciplinary procedures and return to works while liaising with HR as and when required.
  • Carrying out customer review meetings to build relationships and look for areas of organic growth while promoting the good name of Biffa within the industry.
  • Managing the efficient and effective response to all customer complaints and also invoice queries.
  • Maintaining a good working relationship with internal and external customers.
  • Carrying out other reasonable tasks as the Company may require from time to time.
RequirementsHeres what we require:
  • Extensive experience as Operations Manager (or similar level of responsibility in services or logistics).
  • National CPC Qualification.
  • IOSH Certificate.
  • The ability to work within a commercially driven and time-critical environment.
  • Experience of people and health and safety management within a unionised and multi-shift environment.
  • Experience of managing in a labour-intensive multi-shift environment.
  • Proven track record of working to clearly defined service delivery KPIs.
  • Extensive understanding of the waste industry and relevant laws.
  • Knowledge of existing and impending environmental and health and safety legislation.
  • Strong knowledge of the local area.
  • Good transport and logistics knowledge.
  • Profit and loss experience.
  • Experience with route planning and software such as Route Monkey, DPS (LogiX) etc.
  • An understanding of lean methodology and the ability to work to clearly defined KPIs.
  • Proven track record of delivering continuous improvement within an operational/service environment.
  • The ability to communicate with conviction, plan with precision and, most importantly, play well with others.
  • Minimum GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths, however A-Levels or a Degree certainly wont do any harm.
