Job Description

MENTAL HEALTH ADVISORJob Purpose: To ensure the provision of effective mental health interventions, support and adjustments for students with more severe, complex and enduring difficulties to enable them to undertake their studies successfully and benefit from their broader student experience. Hours - 36.5 hours per week, the service runs between 8am and 6pmSalary - £34,304 - £40,927 per annumLocation - BathContract length - 9 monthsMain Duties and Responsibilities:- Manage a caseload of undergraduate and postgraduate students with mental health difficulties and/or disabilities, delivering focused therapeutic interventions both in person and remotely, and co-ordinating support across a range of services to optimise theirstudent experience.- To work flexibly and responsively taking account of the needs and priorities of the service at different times of year.- Maintain positive working relationships with other Student Services teams, academic departments and other University professional services to ensure effective support and adjustments for students with mental health difficulties. Promote positive understandingand education around mental health.- Establish effective working relationships with external service providers, (GPs, specialist mental health services, social care), to facilitate students access appropriate medical support. Promote timely, effective information sharing and collaborative working.- Provide comprehensive mental health assessments to students presenting with significant mental health needs and provide appropriate advice, signposting and referral on to additional services. - Provide urgent triage, assessment and robust, collaborative risk management interventions to students experiencing a mental health crisis, referring to and liaising with internal and external service providers as appropriate.- Contribute to the development and delivery of policies, procedures and practices to improve services for students with mental health difficulties, ensuring a high quality, equitable service in accordance with disability and other equalities legislation.- Contribute to the promotion of student mental well-being and the awareness of student mental health issues across the University, including through staff training.- Maintain excellent standards of written documentation in line with Student Services policy and procedure and requirements of relevant professional bodies.Essential skills and qualifications:- Current professional registration in the field of mental health relevant to this role (NMC or HCPC registration)Degree level qualification or equivalent.- Evidence of relevant continuing professional development/training in the field of mental health/therapeutic interventions - Ability to carry out comprehensive mental health assessments, including risk assessments, across a range of complex presentations, and make appropriate recommendations for further intervention and support.- Supporting clients with complex mental health difficulties in a multi-agency context.- Ability to react proactively to clients experiencing mental health crises and develop collaborative, individualised risk management plans which take account of positive risk-taking and multi-agency liaison.- Experience of delivering targeted, evidence-based mental health interventions.Desirable skills and qualifications:- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and build effective working relationships with a wide range of immediate colleagues and external providers.- Commitment to equal opportunities, inclusively and anti-discriminatory practice.- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with external agencies.- Ability to manage own time and balance competing priorities- Ability to use IT to underpin work- Emotional resilience and ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure.- Ability to work proactively and autonomously, using own initiative appropriately.To be successful, you will need an enhances DBS check.
