Job Description

Berneslai Homeshas a exciting opportunity for aFinance Assistant tojoin their team based at Gateway Plaza in Barnsley with the ability to work agilely. You will join us on a full-time(37 hours),fixed term (12 months) contract, and inreturn, you will receive a competitive salary of £24,294 - £25,979 per annum.About the company:Berneslai Homes is a successful, award-winning social housing provider and employer, managing homes on behalf of Barnsley Council. The Finance Assistant role:We have an exciting opportunity for aFinance Assistantto join us. As part of this brand-new role, you’ll support our Finance team in providing an excellent financial service to our customers, including budget monitoring, and setting, closedown of the accounts and provision of financial advice.Key duties and responsibilities of our Finance Assistant:

  • Assisting the Finance Business Partners and Finance Analyst with the production of service budget monitoring for Berneslai Homes Management, Berneslai Homes Construction Services and Property Repairs and Maintenance in accordance with approved standardsand guidance Assisting in the provision of financial information to feed into the preparation of annual budgets.
  • Havinga good understanding of the year end processes and assist in the implementation of closedown procedures including accounts reconciliation, accruals, intra company recharges and providing information for external audit. Maintenance of our financialsystem (SAP) – including raising sales invoices on a timely basis to ensure cashflow is maximised and journal transactions by strict deadlines.
  • Liaising with senior managers to administer the collation of information to allocate Visa purchase costs and dealing with queries including correct treatment of VAT.
  • Preparation of monthly and quarterly reports, identifying and raising any queries on a timely basis and liaising with budget holders
  • Monitoring and maintaining the Goods Received/Invoices Received (GR/IR) account reconciling to supplier statements and liaising with Financial Services, Suppliers and service staff to resolve queries.
  • Administering the collation of information to allocate and clear direct debits.
  • Assisting in the completion of ad hoc projects and information requests Assist in the training of staff on financial procedures and processes.
  • Contribute to the overall work and objectives of the Finance Team and Corporate Services.
What we’re looking for in our Finance Assistant:
  • 5 GCSE’s including English and Maths (Grade A-C, 5-9)orequivalent
  • Experience working in a similar role including an understanding of financial year end processes and VAT
  • Experience working with software packages including Microsoft Office, in particular Excel
  • An understanding of the basic principles of good financial management Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure, and to tight deadlines The ability to analyse and interpret numerical information
