Job Description

Five Education are looking for an LSA in North Bristol to work 5 days a week from September with a pupil in year 9. The pupil has Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). PDA generally displays as an extreme avoidance of everyday demands and an anxiety-driven need to be in control. It is recognised as a sub-type of autism.Responsibilities Include:

  • Supporting in class and around the school
  • Supporting the pupil with her social interactions
  • Assisting the teacher with differentiation, the pupil you will be supporting doesnt work at the expected level for her age
  • Supporting her with the school routines and tasks she needs to complete
  • Working through refusals to complete tasks with patience and in the face of refusals, excuses, negotiations, and withdrawing
  • Working with planned strategies and techniques according to the EHCP
  • Essential Criteria:
  • At least 12 months of experience working with children
  • At least 6 months of experience supporting children with ASC or other SEND
  • Calm and able to manage physical outbursts or meltdowns, which are rooted in anxiety around demands placed on her
  • School refusal can be a problem, so able to work with the pupil and ease her back in after any period of absence
  • Ideally, you will have knowledge of the KS3 curriculum
  • Experience with visual timetables would be an advantage
  • Aware of the language you choose "would you" and "could you" are often better choices in this situation
  • Able to work 5 days a week 8:30-3:30 term time
  • A proactive approach to assisting children in their work
