Please contact us at .uk, when you apply, to let usknow, quoting the reference number for this vacancy.Reporting to the Countryside Manager, you will be joining an enthusiastic, hard-working Countryside team responsible for managing Wicken Fen. One of Britain’s oldest nature reserves, Wicken Fen consists of one of the last remaining undrained fragments offenland, a SSSI, SAC, NNR & Ramsar designated habitat.The wider area of the reserve is a pioneer of landscape-scale nature conservation, with grazing highland cattle and breeding Konik ponies, shaping a dynamic and diverse landscape. Our ambitious 100-year vision project bids to expand the existing 820ha siteto a 5600ha nature reserve, creating a wildlife corridor stretching down to the outskirts of Cambridge. What youll be doing Working closely with the Lead Ranger, you will be responsible for line managing 3 rangers and a team of volunteers in delivering the ongoing habitat management, site maintenance and monitoring work plans of the nature reserve. You will support the Visitorexperience and operations team in engaging our 70,000 annual visitors with nature and wildlife, whilst being a strong and passionate advocate for the site.You’ll also be responsible for helping with the excellent communication of our conservation work to a wide range of audiences, both new and existing. Who were looking for To deliver this role successfully, you will need to:

  • Have experience of undertaking conservation and habitat management on a nature reserve, including developing and delivering work programs to meet conservation and access outcomes
  • Have knowledge of working with livestock for conservation grazing
  • Have the ability to support your team, with experience of leading and motivating teams of staff and/or volunteers
  • Have practical skills and experience of delivering estate/grounds maintenance
  • Be knowledgeable of Health & Safety and cross compliance legislation relevant to managing a nature reserve
  • Experience of managing contractors and small projects
  • Be able to engage, inspire and influence a diverse group of audiences
  • Experience of ecological monitoring e.g. bird surveys
