As the Strategic Buyer your main duties and tasks would be:Tendering
  • Responsible for managing all 4 types of tenders: revalidation requests, standard revalidation requests, tenders for new parts and tenders to restructure the supply base.
  • As part of this tendering activity you will be expected to be able to interpret technical drawings and follow a datasheet in order to confirm conformity to our requirements.
  • You will need to liaise with Quality, Operations and Engineering to ensure quality standards are adhered too in relation to the supply of goods and services.
  • For tenders on new parts or new suppliers you will be expected to manage the contract evaluation and tendering process; and for revalidations able to negotiate and track price reductions (PQuote process).
  • To deliver the tendering objectives successfully, you will be required to work cross functionally across the business with key internal stakeholders including the Commercial, Product Management, Engineering and Quality teams.
Purchasing
  • You will support the Material Control team enabling them to raise all purchase orders within the required time frame.
  • You will support the Material Control team and Demand Planning Team with the optimisation of procurement settings to reduce manual intervention and control Inventory such utilising Auto Ordering, VMI and Kan-Bans.
  • You will act as the first escalation route for the Material Control team where they are struggling to improve vendor performance specifically related to OTD and quality. Working with the Material Controllers to understand and resolve systematic issues.
Category Management
  • You will be responsible for a range of suppliers within a specific category.
  • You will need to map the supply base, and over time develop a supply base that is agile, responsive and can drive cost down.
  • Produce supplier performance reports to be used in conjunction with the vendor metrics monitored and communicated by the Tactical Buyer team for use in supplier performance review meetings.
  • Following the supplier review meetings, you will be expected to develop or evolve the existing Procurement strategy for that commodity.
  • Promote supplier relationship management and actively engage with key suppliers to address issues and identify potential opportunities to further develop collaboration and deliver continuous improvement of supplier performance (e.g. Costs, Service and Quality).
  • To manage supplier relationships in a strategic manner to ensure continuity of supply and ensure commercial terms are suitable for the long term aims of the business.
  • To review all aspects of performance from your supplier base and to issue reports detailing actions taken to obviate any failures or threats to the business; this would include Adverse Purchase Price Variance, Adverse OTIF and PPM.
  • For New Product Introduction projects ensure that a robust Supply Chain is in place from initial launch to long term security of supply.
  • Be a passionate driver of continuous improvement activities and the implementation of industry best practice where possible.
  • Build effective working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders to ensure quality standards are adhered too and standards are understood in relation to the supply of goods and services.
Ideal skills and experience for the position:
  • Experience in an engineering biased Strategic Procurement role.
  • Experience in a Tactical Procurement role.
  • Devising long term commodity strategies to deliver required objectives.
  • Working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Identifying and establishing strategic vendor partnerships.
  • Rationalising supply base.
  • Effectively managing end to end NPIs.
  • Leading and driving continuous improvement.
  • Implementing world class ethics standards in the field of Procurement.
  • Experience of MAPICS XA an advantage.
