Job Description

Accountant £36,000 to £40,000 12 month Fixed Term ContractFounded in 1901, The Club is the oldest and largest in the world for all forms of camping. We are a leading UK membership organisation, providing a wealth of products and services covering all aspects of camping and caravanning in the United Kingdom andabroad.Our turnover is around £60m, we operate a network of 100 UK campsites, have over 230 employees based in our modern Coventry Head Office and an additional 500 employees based on our campsites seasonally.We are currently recruiting for an experienced Accountant to join us on a 12 month fixed-term basis.Reporting to the Head of Finance, the successful candidate will work collaboratively within a dedicated department of 12 to ensure a coordinated approach in delivering financial and management information to the business.Main duties & responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate and timely management accounts on a monthly basis
  • To provide financial support to, and liaise with department managers
  • Develop, maintain, and analyse budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs
  • To analyse variances against the budget, and previous year’s, figures
  • Prepare and submit the quarterly VAT return for own area of responsibility, ensuring any VAT payments are made promptly to HMRC
  • To manage/contribute to the production of the annual budget for specific departments, providing updated forecasts as the year progresses
  • To prepare corporation tax schedules, and other supporting documentation, to our tax advisors, ensuring any tax due is paid promptly to HMRC (if applicable to job role)
  • To take responsibility for the creation and content of standard and ad hoc reporting, with the support the team.
  • Take ownership of the balance sheet, monitoring the reconciliation of individual accounts, and actively managing the balances
  • Be responsible for / contribute to preparing the financial statements for own area of responsibility, liaising with auditors and tax advisors
The following essential experience should be shown in applications:
  • A professional accountancy qualification, is essential
  • Previous experience of providing monthly and annual financial & management information
  • Experience in the production of management accounts
  • Preparations of consolidated Group accounts
  • Submission of VAT returns
  • Excellent standard of verbal and written communication
  • Experience of using accounting software (Great Plains desirable)
  • Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills
The working hours for this post are 08:45 - 16:45 Monday to Friday. We operate hybrid working with 2 set days in the office and the option to work the rest from home. Employees can take advantage of hybrid working after completing initial training for therole.The Camping and Caravanning Club is a fantastic place to work, with a supportive and dedicated team.
