Through Springer Natures Transfer Desk, we provide authors with a convenient way of resubmitting their manuscripts to the most suitable journals. This is an exciting opportunity to drive quality submissions and transfers to Springer Nature in the areas of Humanities, Social Sciences and related fields, while providing an excellent author experience. You will join the Submissions/Transfers team, reporting to the Editorial Director, and will have editorial or publishing experience in a relevant subject area.You will develop an understanding of the relevant Springer Nature journal portfolio and use this alongside your subject area knowledge to further increase submissions/transfers. A key aspect of the position is directing a large team of submissions advisors who review and match manuscripts to appropriate journals. The role also includes direct management responsibility for a small team of local submissions advisors.Important aspects of the role are a focus on integrity, quality and excellent service to authors, helping them to publish their research in a timely way in a journal that meets their needs. You will also make an important strategic contribution to how Springer Nature connects and expands its journal portfolio, working with senior publishing and editorial stakeholders in this capacity.This position is a fantastic opportunity to increase your range of experience in academic publishing as you will interact with diverse teams within Springer Nature, including editorial and publishing, research integrity, product development, operations and marketing.This is a particularly exciting time to join the Submissions/Transfers team as we shape how we use systems and technology to best support the needs of our authors, reviewers and editors.Responsibilities

  • Drive submissions/transfers to Springer Nature in the areas of Humanities and Social Sciences and related fields, including behavioural science and psychology, business and management, economics and finance, education, law and politics.
  • Direct a team of Editorial Submission Advisors, promoting excellent author service and a focus on integrity and quality.
  • Work with editorial and publishing colleagues to map relationships between journals, promote transfers between them and identify portfolio gaps to expand existing journals or launch new titles.
  • Use data to identify trends and opportunities to improve our service.
  • Be the first point of contact for internal and external stakeholders within your subject area.
  • Represent the Submissions/Transfers team in meetings with stakeholders, including at a senior level.
  • Work with technical and operational teams to build and improve the submission and transfer experience for our authors.
  • Experience, Skills & Qualifications
  • You will ideally hold a PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject area. However, individuals with a Bachelors or Masters degree will also be considered.
  • Experience of and interest in academic publishing and an understanding of the research environment and the needs of researchers are both essential.
  • Excellent communication skills and desire to work as part of a team.
  • Positive and proactive approach to problem solving, taking ownership to drive and complete tasks.
  • Strong organizational skills, including proven ability to meet objectives.
  • Aptitude for using data to identify opportunities and improve processes.
  • Readiness to embrace change and take advantage of technological developments.
  • Line-management experience would be advantageous, but is not essential.
