Job Description

Are you an organised and dedicated individual looking for a role with varied and exciting responsibilities If so, wed love to hear from you!We are looking to recruit a Head of Strategic and Economic Communications to join our team in one of the busiest and most high-profile communications teams in Whitehall.This position would be ideal for someone who would like to play a key role in delivering the governments message on the economy at a challenging time.The Ministerial and Communications Group sits at the heart of the Treasury. It provides support to Ministers, through the Ministerial offices. It acts as the external face HM Treasury, through the Communications teams; and it is responsible for the management of the department, through its support for the Permanent Secretary, the Treasury Board and the Executive Management Board (EMB), and its ownership of Treasury governance structures.This role is suitable for someone with Economics and/or Communications experience. Responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Working closely with the Chancellor of the Exchequer, special advisers and senior officials to ensure HM Treasury business is communicated in a clear and compelling manner. This includes supporting the Chancellor to prepare for media engagements and accompanying him on visits.
  • Developing and implementing a cross Government economy narrative and overseeing high-quality economy and fiscal media output.
  • Leading on communications strategy, coordination and planning, including for Budgets, Spending Reviews and other significant events.
  • Building relationships with key economics & business editors and other journalists and defending HMTs economic and fiscal policy.
  • Managing a team of around 19, with 6 branches. You will also play a leadership role in the wider Communications team as part of the senior management team with the Chancellors Press Secretary and Head of Media.
  • Driving a creative, insight-led approach to communications across the team, including supervising HMTs polling and focus groups.
