Job Description

Division/Dept Finance Location Home and flexible (store support centre when required) Reporting to Financial Manager - Nectar Accounting - (Revenue Recognition) In a nutshell At Sainsburys, we are in a very exciting period as we have moved to a Group structure - with Argos, Habitat and now Nectar joining the core Food Business. As such, we are also responding to the changing needs of the business, ultimately driven by delivering what our customers want, and how they would like to shop. This role is a key part of a team that supports the Nectar 360 entities and the associated accounting that takes place across the group, with a focus on revenue accounting and the associated billings. What you need to do Your role has a strong business partnering requirement across the finance teams as well as the Nectar marketing teams. Additionally, you will be responsible for some accounting across the Nectar group - in particular revenue recognition. As part of the Accounting team, you will need to:

  • Accurately calculate and generate the basis for billing, ensuring customers are billed in a timely manner
  • To support the Finance Manager responsible for the accurate timely accounting of revenue, in line with revenue recognition standards
  • Work closely with the Sainsburys Finance stakeholders, in particular the Nectar marketing team to ensure that we are accurately recording revenue and using the correct application as standards change
  • Ensure that business partners understand and adhere to the policies around revenue recognition, accounting policies and provide training as needed
  • Accurate reporting and commentary of Revenue movements to the relevant areas of the Sainsburys business and other governance forums
  • Support on revenue modelling for the commercial team, for the new strategies, but also on adhoc pieces, keeping a keen eye on the Sainsburys group picture as well as the Loyalty teams goals
  • Understand and apply the relevant standards that govern revenue, IFRS15 and support on group consolidation work as needed
  • Ensure accurate postings are made to manage the Nectar deferred revenue account as well as other deferred income accounts, working with the Finance Manager and other stakeholders to ensure that the account is always reconciled
  • Support on the process for budget, Q2F, corporate planning and latest view forecasting in this area
  • Uphold strong financial control, Balance sheet management and general accounting principles
  • Perform standard duties during the month and standard month end duties including journal posting and correct account management
  • Support on resolution of queries from stakeholders, finance operations teams and from other parties including customers of Nectar
  • To form strong working relationships with the wider Nectar team to find efficiencies and improve ways of working
  • Stepping up to cover the Finance Manager as needed
  • What you need to know
  • To have a good track record of strong financial control, but also the ability to maintain such an environment
  • Be commercially astute
  • Technical Skills are a must to join our team:
  • Part qualified CIMA/ACA/ACCA or relevant suitable experience
  • Strong Excel and numerical skills, with an aptitude for turning data into analysis and insight and being able to clearly articulate this through your communication

  • A self-starter, and a strong team player that can work independently as needed, prioritise, and assist Stakeholders to reach resolutions

  • Must have a strong eye for detail and a passion for accuracy

  • Training both on the job, learning bursts, lunchtime learning sessions and formal CPD training to keep knowledge refreshed
