Job Description

About the Service / DepartmentThe Hestia Age Activity Centre (AAC) provides a range of group activities for members aged 60 plus. The centre is open four days per week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday).The Hestia Recovery Cafe is an out of hours mental health crisis service, providing an alternative to traditional crisis services. The Tutor and Activities Coordinator will primarily be based at the AAC, working one day per week at the Hestia Recovery Cafe.About the role

  • Work with the Team Leader (TL) of the AAC and Team Manager (TM) of the Recovery café to set up and deliver activity groups within a mental health recovery / wellbeing context across both services.
  • Manage all aspects of Adult Learning sessions at the Centre, including responsibility for recruitment and management of Tutors, and ensuring that all course delivery requirements and associated evidence such as monitoring logs for reporting purposes arekept to high standards.
  • Ensure that all learning and development activities are delivered within a safeguarding adults framework and that any safeguarding concerns are reported.
  • Ensure that activities are aligned with the principles of recovery.
  • Ensure AAC members / Recovery Café customers have appropriate access to information about existing networks, including faith based groups and informal sources of support in the local community.
  • Provide mental health resources to customers and members, supporting access to opportunities for recovery and rehabilitation and community capacity building.
  • Work with the AAC TL and Recovery Café TM to review the social inclusion progress of AAC members / Recovery Café customers - addressing equality and diversity issues for Black and minority ethnic communities or for people who identify as LGBT+.
  • Ensure confidentiality is kept at all times and that all records are kept up to date and are stored in a secure and confidential manner.
  • Be responsible for the day to day management of an allocated number of volunteers (including supervisions and role risk assessments).
  • Deal with e-mail, phone calls and other correspondence, directing and re-directing, as appropriate so that people contacting us get an effective service.
  • To work some evenings/ weekends, when required.
About You
  • Experience of working with people requiring support related to mental health and complex needs.
  • Experience of working with older / senior adults / vulnerable adults and how to identify and report any safeguarding concerns.
  • Experience of facilitating learning and development activities, group work or support groups.
  • Excellent knowledge of issues related to signs, symptoms and treatment of mental health issues.
  • IT literate with excellent Microsoft Office skills and the ability to learn and use new apps.
  • Ability to receive, process and accurately record detailed information, sharing it with others as appropriate and within the framework of confidentiality.
  • Confidence to liaise effectively with others both inside and outside of the organisation, being a positive and professional representative for Hestia at all times.
  • Strong attention to detail with good time management.
  • Good team working skills with the ability to work unsupervised.
  • A solution focused approach and the capacity to work constructively and collaboratively towards problem solving.
  • The ability to work with people who may display a range of emotions, and which may be experienced as challenging.
