A temporary School Welfare Assistant with First Aid is needed for a short-term assignment for a secondary school inNewham.The First Aider & Welfare Assistant plays a crucial role within the school support staff team. Below isa streamlined version of the job description:Medical Assessment and First Aid:The First Aider & Welfare Assistant evaluates the medical and welfare needs of pupils and staff.They administer front-line first aid promptly and effectively.This role is critical in providing immediate care to those who are sick or injured during the school day.Customer Service and Communication:As the first point of contact, the post holder interacts with pupils, parents, and visitors.They offer advice and guidance on a wide range of school policies and procedures.Demonstrating exemplary customer service is essential in all interactions, whether internal or external.Additional Duties:Reception duties, including handling telephone calls, messages, and emails.Assisting staff and students with general inquiries.Liaising with parents regarding medical issues.Managing stock control of first aid consumables.Maintaining accurate medical information on the student database.Emergency First Aid and Medical Assistance:Assess and respond to first aid problems presented by pupils and staff during emergencies.Administer first aid promptly when required and maintain accurate records.Responsible for administering prescribed drugs to pupils with parental consent.Attend training sessions to update skills and knowledge (e.g., first aid, database, and Excel).Health Agency Liaison and Support:Network with internal and external health agencies regularly.Seek advice and support for students with specific health issues under the direction of AHT Safeguarding and SLT.Record Keeping and Reporting:Create and maintain accurate pupil injury/first-aid records in SIMS.Generate relevant reports for SLT in alignment with school policies.Collaborate closely with the SEND & Safeguarding Admin Officer on all first aid/medical matters, including updates on pupils’ EHC plans.Logistics and Safety:Order and manage up to date first aid equipment/materials within financial regulations.Complete and submit various forms related to the role (e.g., accident reports).Ensure polite, professional, and friendly reception for all visitors, following the school’s safeguarding policy.Student Care and Accessibility:Attend to injured pupils who cannot reach the welfare room.Provide support to pupils with ongoing medical needs, aligning with their Individual Health Care plans.Please only apply if your skills and experience match what is required in the details above.
