Job Description

Our client is the UKs biggest end-to-end commercial vehicle fleet management business managing and maintaining a fleet of over 90,000 vehicles across 81 locations.They have an exciting opportunity for a Workshop Controller to join the team at their Wakefield workshop on a full-time permanent basis.What we needSomeone who can take charge of and work alongside groups of people within the workshop to ensure effective utilization within company standards. Someone to receive vehicles from customers, ensuring that their experience with us is efficient, timely and professional.An individual able to estimate work and allocate as required, ensuring times and parts usage are within acceptable limits with due consideration being given to warranty.What youll do as a Workshop Controller * Assist the Garage Manager in planning and balancing the workload as appropriate and update on a daily basis.* Advise Garage Manager when vehicles not presented for service at the appropriate time and it has not been possible to re-book.* Taking charge of the mechanical aids section as required.* Taking charge of store serving a staff of 60 or more.* Ensure that store provision is matched to planned work and assist in carrying out stores checks as required.* Carrying out all classes of skilled work, involved in the inspection, maintenance and complete overhaul of vehicles and mechanical aids, including mechanical and electrical fault diagnosis, overhauling electrical equipment and components, welding, body repairsand painting, inspection and gauging of parts before and after machine setting and operating machine tools as required.* Ensure that all documentation and procedures are properly maintained in accordance within company requirements.* Perform quality checks on the standard of vehicle maintenance and ensure that corrective action is taken when necessary.* Oversee maintenance of fuel installation as required; including ensuring any fuel receipt/issue is carried out effectively.* Use of skills and performance of other work within normal grade/job skills as required by the workshop.* Supervisor to maximise workshop efficiency, which may involve work normally carried out by lower grades.* May be required to substitute for the Garage Manager.* Carry out work as directed by Head Office within normal grade job skills.* Maybe required to carry out ODCP/ETO duties when an appropriate allowance will be paid if qualified.* Working at all times in accordance of safety policy and legal requirements.* Qualified to a minimum of NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair* Experience in carrying out all classes of skilled work, involving the inspection, maintenance, complete overhaul of vehicles and the use of mechanical aids, including mechanical and electrical fault diagnostic equipment * Experience in overhauling electrical equipment and components, welding, body repairs and painting, inspection and gauging of parts before and after machine setting* Previous experience of taking charge of Workshop store provision and ensuring stock is available for planned/scheduled work* Previous experience of leading a Workshop Team and assisting in planning and balancing the workload on a daily basisHow youll be a successful Workshop Controller * Demonstrate the ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team* Demonstrate excellent attention to detail* Demonstrate a proactive and organised approach* Good geographical knowledge would be beneficial What youll getAn enhanced employer pension contribution rate of between 5% and 10% and pension deductions made through salary sacrifice for tax and national insurance savings * Comprehensive life insurance* Free eye test vouchers and vouchers towards the cost of glasses (dependent on test results)* Access to My Staff Shop our Rivus benefits portal with 1000s of high street, online, supermarket, cinema, travel and gym discounts* Financial and health wellbeing programs and support including and employee assistance programme* Reward & recognition programs* Agile ways of working for office staff* Long service awards when you reach key milestones* The opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking collaborative team who will focus on your future career and development Travel throughout the UK will be required on occasion.Please note all job offers are subject to Enhanced DBS checks
