Whether you are in lab operations, finance, IT, sales, or another area, when you work at Charles River, you will be the difference every day for patients across the globe.Job SummaryAt our world class facility in Elphinstone, Tranent (close to Edinburgh), we are currently recruiting for a Director of our Chemistry Department (High Resolution Mass Spectrometry and Residue Analysis)The successful applicant will lead a team of chemists who contribute to the safety evaluation of agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals by elucidating metabolic pathways and assaying chemical residues in food stuffs and environmental samples.Object of JobYou will be responsible for the effective operation of these teams. This will include the recruitment, training, and retention of staff, setting and achieving department budgets, ensuring regulatory compliance and continuous improvement. In addition, thesuccessful candidate will be expected to drive business growth in these areas by developing positive relationships with clients, staying aware of market changes, developing new opportunities for these groups and by raising our profile as a provider of theseservices.Key Responsibilities:· Manage a team of around 50 staff.· Optimize processes and drive high standards.· Ensure that staff are equipped with up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and scientific best practice.· Maintain contact with industry groups.· Implement performance metrics to drive continuous improvement.· Oversee our commitments to our internal and external customers!· Manage the departmental budget.Ideal Applicants should have:· A Degree in a Chemistry or quality related field (Master’s degree/PhD would be an advantage).· Significant leadership experience in a regulated lab environment.· Extensive knowledge of GLP/GCP and UK & International regulations.· Good leadership, delegation, communication, and internal consulting skills.· A proven track record in successful and effective people-management, including leading cross-cultural teams.· Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.· A can-do self-starting attitude, comfortable with identifying the need for change, leading change, and adjusting to change.· Capacity for domestic and international travel.What you can expect from us:
