Summary Joining a skilled and passionate Collections Team at an exciting time, youll help develop our offer as one of the National Trusts 28 Treasure Houses and continue to deliver first-rate conservation work. Its no small task. In fact, its a big team effortand its why our Collections Assistants are so important.Youll work one in four weekends and some bank holidays. What its like to work here Reporting to a Collections & House Officer, youll work within a small team of Collections Assistants to take care of the mansion, stables complex and two churches.The vast and atmospheric Calke Abbey is home to an extensive and complex collection of over 30,000 objects, ranging from the finest textiles to unusual curios, vast libraries and unique natural history. The distinctive Spirit of Place and abandoned appearanceof many of the rooms calls for a unique approach to conservation, with the mantra Repair not Restore at the heart of all we do. Our work balances managing the precious interiors and objects, with ensuring that the 100,000+ visitors we welcome through thedoors annually can access and engage with Calke and its fascinating stories.Click here for more information about this location What youll be doing As a Collections Assistant, you’ll be working with a great housekeeping team in an incredible place, helping with the day-to-day cleaning and care of the collections. No detail will go unnoticed, and you’ll keep a keen eye on everything from the environmentalconditions in a room, to signs of wear and tear. You’ll keep accurate records too, collecting information during cleaning routines to inform our understanding of the house, stables and churches we care for.In this visitor facing role, we’d love you to talk to visitors about the work you’re doing, and the collections we have, sharing tales from the past as well as your personal experience of working here. Youll also be part of the wider team of employees andvolunteers, helping to cover roles within the mansion and across the property where necessary.
