Job DescriptionRole SummaryReporting to the Financial Accounting Manager, and line managing the Assistant Financial Accountant, this varied and challenging role will be responsible for the accounting of a variety of areas, primarily focusing on gross profit and stock. The role ispart of the Financial Accounting team, but the successful candidate will be expected to be responsible for business partnering a variety of stakeholders including the wider finance team, the store team, and the logistic teams. The Finance team is a group ofaround 60 colleagues, which is small enough to enable roles to be broad but at the same time large enough to offer ample opportunities for development into new areas.What youll do Leading and advising on technical accounting updates and initiatives Ensuring accurate and relevant recording of period-end transactions, providing clear and appropriate supporting schedules and actions Partnering with the business teams to budget and forecast various P&L lines and assisting with the provisioning, providing commentary for any variances Completing monthly accounting activities for a variety of areas, understanding variances to budgets/forecasts and clearly explaining these to relevant stakeholders within and outside of Finance including the Stores Director, Head of Logistics and FinanceDirector Influential member of several cross-functional working groups to improve stock loss and minimise the loss on returns into the business Performing periodic balance sheet reconciliations on a variety of accounts and presenting these at balance sheet review meetings Ensuring a robust methodology is applied to key accounting estimates, for example stock provisions. Dealing with half year and year end audit queries and involvement in the production of the year end and interim financial statements. Developing strong working relationships with a wide range of areas across the business to understand processes and identify improvements Driving improvements in current processes to increase efficiency, accuracy and level of control Understanding other activities within the Financial Accounting team and providing cover for other team members as required Line Management of the Assistant Financial Accounting, ensuring they are suitably challenged and constantly developing.QualificationsEssential Skills ACA/ ACCA/ CIMA qualified Strong financial accounting skills, understanding & familiarity of month end and statutory year end procedures Strong organisational skills, logical approach and attention to detail Strong technical accounting knowledge as well as proactive approach to maintaining and seeking further knowledge Line Management experience Proven ability to work to deadlines whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy Ability to communicate detailed process and transactional data clearly and simply at all levels Strong interpersonal skills Self-motivated, resilient and able to demonstrate initiativeDesirable Skills IT skills with strong knowledge of Excel including pivot tables and lookups Competent in the use of ERP systems (SAP desirable) Qualified in practice, with several years PQE, ideally in industry
