Job Description

Job PurposeAre you someone who loves to challenge the norm, change things for the better and really make a genuine difference to people’s lives. Then consider a job with probation supporting people to successfully leave prison and reintegrate back into society.We are looking to recruit into a team to work in the prison environment to prepare people for release by adopting a desistance approach. You will work in close partnership with statutory and voluntary organisations to collectively plan and meet resettlement needs. You will also engage and motivate service users in custody to ensure they understand and comply with rehabilitative activities. Integral to this team is the planning and mitigation to reduce the risk of harm to the public.Whatever your experience is in working with service users you will have an aptitude for creating resettlement plans and facilitating groupwork activities. You will have well developed people skills and have the ability to engage with vulnerable people with complex needs. But some of the most important qualities will be your resilience, enthusiasm, commitment, empathy, tenacity, supportive approach and willingness to do whatever it takes.Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively engage with service users with the aim of sustained rehabilitation
  • Manage a caseload of service users, to support with the smooth transition from custody into the community.
  • Demonstrate and provide evidence of understanding protected characteristics and working to meet specific requirements
  • Monitor service user progress in custody and work with the community responsible officer on identified rehabilitation needs
  • Perform specialist elements of posts on request, e.g., delivery of group work interventions and specialist support
  • Comply with, and contribute to, children and adult safeguarding duties, promoting the welfare of children and adults and alerting relevant colleagues and stakeholders should any risk be identified
  • Demonstrate collaborative working within the ITTG team; sharing practice and skills, promoting a team ethos
  • Proactively responsible for developing and maintaining relationships and networks to ensure appropriate support and engagement with service users
  • Actively manage risk and take responsibility for recognising when risks need to be escalated and action taken
  • Responsible for recording and record keeping in line with company policy and procedures
  • Perform other duties commensurate with the post as from time to time may be determined by the line manager, Director or above
  • Operational Planning and Management
  • Ensure that all cactivities will be undertaken in line with rehabilitation goals, enhancing consistency in delivery of the sentence/contract compliance
  • Contribute and supply information for the effective management of the sentence, to the responsible officer in the community.
  • Responsible for motivating and monitoring the service users’ progress through to release and supporting the service user on release.
  • Demonstrate Skills for Effective Engagement, Development and Supervision (SEEDS) in day-to-day practice
  • Work flexible hours within the remit of personal contracts or agreed variations, subject to exigencies of the service
  • Delivery of ProgrammesDelivery of the Interchange Model (including the six core modules) as follows:
  • Deliver/co-deliver individual inductions to explain (i) the Interchange Model (ii) expectations of sentence and possible consequences of non-compliance; support service user self-assessment
  • Conduct strengths-based assessment linked to co-development and review of the resettlement plan
  • Maintain clear and timely record-keeping on the Case Management System
  • complete Interventions used to support change and deliver the sentence
  • Identify and utilise relevant services for protected characteristic groups
  • Identify and deliver interventions that promote change and personal development
  • Integrate (Activities designed to engage offenders with their community and access its resources)
  • Understand, engage with and influence local community partnerships for the benefit of service users and local communities
  • Optimise Networks towards sustained rehabilitation
  • Participate in multi-agency forums
  • Deliver/co-deliver group work interventions
  • Motivate service users to engage, comply with and complete accredited programmes and other group work
  • Finance and Commercial
  • Ensure performance metrics are achieved through the recording of information in a timely manner, in line with practice guidance and through working as a member of the ITTG team to proactively understand and ensure that performance and quality standards are met
  • Decision Making
  • Use professional judgement whilst exercising all case management duties and assessing and managing risk, escalating appropriately, with auditable evidence in place
  • Relationships
  • Foster a positive working relationship with local partnerships, suppliers of interventions and other community resources
  • Provide agencies with relevant service user information where appropriate, including sentence details, risk, and arrangements for addressing non-compliance
  • Collaborate with others to resolve problems and improve ways of working
  • Collaborate with the National Probation Service where appropriate
  • Undertake peer review as part of quality assurance QA role
  • Build an effective working relationship with the service user, adopting a strengths-based approach
  • Build an effective working relationship as a member of the ITTG team with prison partners and other colleagues
