Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Attendance & Pastoral Support Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in promoting inclusive practice, safeguarding, and supporting the welfare and personal care of children and young people,particularly those facing barriers to learning and with medical needs. This role is integral to raising standards of achievement and attainment for all pupils by focusing on good attendance, parent partnership, and addressing factors affecting individual progressand well-being.

  • Reporting to: Headteacher, SLT, and SENCo
Day to Day of the role:
  • Monitor and report on whole school attendance, identifying key areas and pupils of concern.
  • Act as a point of contact for parents/carers regarding pastoral and behavioural issues.
  • Encourage parental participation in school life and coordinate information sessions, workshops, and events to support their child’s learning and development.
  • Manage the school’s management information system for pupil data and ensure accurate attendance registers.
  • Liaise with parents and external agencies, including the School Nurse and Social Workers, to support pupils’ needs.
  • Support the Office Manager with confidential pupil record files and school census attendance returns.
  • Monitor attendance and liaise with relevant staff to improve pupil attendance through family engagement.
  • Carry out the role of Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) and support families with significant difficulties.
  • Maintain accurate pupil records and support the secondary transfer process.
  • Establish and maintain good relationships with parents and collaborate with the school’s admin team for efficient service.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience in a similar role, preferably within an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act and Data Protection Act.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, including external agencies and school staff.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Competency in managing information systems and pupil data.
  • First Aid qualification or willingness to undergo training.
