Summary Rangers play a hugely important role at the National Trust, thinking long term to look after our special places. Were looking for you to join our Outdoors team at Wentworth Castle Gardens. Working across a range of habitats, your love of the outdoors will inspire others who work alongside you or visit our sites.Interviews will be held on 24th March and will include a practical exercise.If you have any questions about this role please contact: .uk What its like to work here As the only Grade 1 listed landscape in South Yorkshire, the Wentworth Castle Gardens team put people at the heart of everything we do, Our ambition is to create an experience where everyone feels welcome, and able to enjoy this vital green space to explore,walk, relax, play and spend time together outdoors.Reporting to the Gardens and Outdoors Manager, you will be working as part of a growing team of staff and volunteers. The role of Ranger is varied and you will be working across a range of habitats with no two days the same. As well as the Grade 1 HeritageLandscape listing the site has Conservation Areas, Ancient Woodland, Tree Preservation Orders, newly planted woodland, ponds, and grasslands, and part of the estate is designated as a Local Wildlife Site.Click here for more information about this location What youll be doing In this role you will work in a small team of Rangers to manage, improve, and create exceptional nature conservation sites. Youll help manage volunteers in all aspects of our work, including practical countryside management, ecologicalsurveys and engagement work. As we are open 7 days a week, youll work weekends, bank holidays and occasional evening.Youll play a key role in enabling inspirational visitor experience by sharing your passion for the area and encourage public involvement with the conservation work that we do. Part of the challenge of the role is to manage the many different needs of visitorsin a balanced way that ensures their enjoyment, without negatively impacting on wildlife or the needs of the tenant farmers. Who were looking for Great people skills, to bring out the best in our team of volunteers, whilst bringing the qualities of oursites to life for our visitors An excellent team player with strong communication skills, to work effectively with colleagues, partner organisations, tenants and the local community Good ecological knowledge and practical habitat management experience Goodknowledge of risk management, compliance and safety procedures Experience of working at similar outdoor settings and on busy visitor sites Full UK driving license Competence with, and relevant qualifications for the use of machinery and equipment includingchainsaws.
