Job Description

Census coverage survey interviewers15, 25 or 37 hours a weekContract: 27 April 2021 to 2 June 2021 plus holidaySalary dependent on locationBand 1 - £14.61Band 2 - £12.64Band 3 - £11.22No fixed daily working hours but you must work within the following times:Monday to Saturday: 9am and 8pmSundays and bank holidays: 10am and 4pmIn addition, a minimum of 60% of these hours are to be worked during the following times:Monday to Friday, between 4pm to 8pmSaturdays, between 9am and 8pmSundays, between 10am and 4pmConfident communicators make the censusThe census is a survey of the entire population of England and Wales that happens every 10 years. It’s run by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and gives us a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales.The information we collect is used to make decisions that affect everyone – things like how many schools, surgeries and hospitals we need.We’re now looking for a dedicated team who can complete doorstep interviews in assigned areas. You will gain valuable experience and help to improve your community’s future.The roleDo you enjoy speaking to people from all walks of life In this important temporary role, you will complete doorstep interviews with every household in your assigned postcodes. You will list and record all properties within a particular area on a smartphone, knock on doors, and encourage residents to complete a doorstep interview with you.Some people will have concerns about completing the questionnaire. That’s where your excellent communication or customer service skills will come in. You will reassure these people, and make repeated visits to addresses as necessary until you get a response.This is an independent role. You will be out and about in a designated area and working to your own schedule, within set guidelines. You will have the support of a team leader, who will help you settle into your role, and provide support and assistance as and when you need it.About youYou have excellent customer service skills and are confident speaking with members of the public and the local community. There are occasions when this work might be challenging, so you will need to remain calm and professional if that happens. Good written and verbal skills in English are important (Welsh would be an advantage if you are working in Wales). You should be well organised, full of initiative, and feel confident using a smartphone and various applications.Depending on your location, you may need access to a motor vehicle, insured for business use. You will receive expenses within your work area.People make the census.
