Part-Time Learning AssistantReference: FEB20227090Location: Newport WetlandsSalary: £18,100 - £20,080 Pro RataBenefits: Pension, Life Assurance, 26 days Annual Leave (pro-rata)Duration: 4 monthsDo you have a passion for nature and wildlife This is an opportunity to share your enthusiasm as a learning assistant and help to deliver our education programme to visiting schools. Typical activities range from hands on exploration of woods and pondsto playing environmental games alongside classroom learning.You will need to deliver fun and exciting activities and assist the Learning Officer as part of our Schools on Reserves programme. This aims to give schoolchildren the chance to experience nature first-hand and you can be part of that exciting journey ofdiscovery!Description of role:To deliver RSPB programmes for connecting schoolchildren and young people with nature through curriculum-linked education programmes on the reserve.Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

Good level of general ecological and natural history knowledge.
Good understanding of Health & Safety and Safeguarding issues with regards to outdoor education.
Confidence and ability to facilitate a days programme both in the field and in the classroom with a group of students and their teacher.
Ability to work with a wide variety of ages and abilities of children.
Abundant enthusiasm and excellent communication skills.
Previous teaching experience or work with groups of young people.
Working experience of environmental education.
Working experience of teaching outdoors.

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:

Degree level qualification.
Teaching qualification.
Working knowledge of the National Curriculum.

About the nature reserve: Newport Wetlands is a special area for wildlife, lying between the Severn estuary and the river Usk.
