About the Service / DepartmentApproved Premises (AP) work with the highest-risk offenders and provide a vital element in public protection arrangements. AP offer a ‘stepping stone from prison to more mainstream community life with a level of contact, support and supervision that doesnot exist anywhere else in the probation service.Residents are seen on a daily basis and staff become involved in the residents life to a very high degree: giving advice and offering support whilst exercising control and supervision, all the time liaising with the rest of the probation service and a widerange of agencies. This intense level of contact is what enables AP staff to monitor residents well-being, to tailor support and to be aware of their actions and changes in their behaviour in a way that no other intervention can. The role of AP staff is toencourage, facilitate and empower residents to do all that they can for themselves, rather than to do the work for them.About the role
