Job Description

Planning Officer (Up To 1 Year Maternity Cover)The North York Moors National Park Authority works to conserve and promote the beautiful scenery, magnificent wildlife and captivating historic environment of the North York Moors.The National Park boasts some of the most diverse landscapes in the country with a rich built and cultural heritage.We are now looking for a Planning Officer to join our team on a fixed-term contract for up to 12 months, to cover a period of maternity leave and help us protect the natural beauty of our Park.The Benefits- Salary of £25,991- £28,672 per annum- 24 days holiday per annum (rising annually by one day up to 29 days), plus eight Bank Holidays- Work within one of the UKs most stunning landscapes- Great training opportunities- Pension Scheme & flexible workingThis is a fantastic opportunity to use your skills and expertise to help create a more sustainable future for our National Park and ensure it will be preserved and enjoyed for generations to come.Youll have the chance to help safeguard and enhance the Parks natural and built environment whilst providing for the needs of local communities and enabling them to thrive.So, if you have knowledge of planning issues within rural areas and protected landscapes, as well as knowledge of relevant planning laws, we want to hear from you!The RoleAs a Planning Officer, you will undertake a range of activities to support the effective delivery of our Development Management Service. Specifically, you will provide a high-quality and efficient planning service, handling your own case work of applicationsand proposals for development. You will carry out necessary site inspections and negotiations with applicants and their agents as well as specialist staff.Additionally, you will:- Prepare reports and recommendations and present items to the Planning Committee- Assist with planning appeals- Ensure developments are monitored, taking necessary action when required- Help with the preparation of plans and policies for the management of development in the National Park- Assist with administrative aspects of the development management processAbout YouTo join us as a Planning Officer, you will need:- Knowledge of planning issues within rural areas and protected landscapes- Up-to-date knowledge of relevant planning laws- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to write clear, concise letters and committee reports- The ability to analyse and interpret information to make balanced judgements- The ability to develop compromises to resolve conflicts- Excellent IT skills- Good interpersonal skills with a wide range of people- Working towards full membership of Royal Town Planning Institute- Educated to a degree level or equivalent- A full driving licencePost qualification experience in development management would be beneficial to your application, as would experience of working successfully with local communities.This is a full-time role working 37 hours per week on a fixed-term contract.The closing date for applications is the 14th March 2022, with interviews scheduled for the 24th March 2022.Other organisations may call this role Planning Advisor, Planning Enforcement Officer, Development Management Officer, or Planning Compliance Officer.Webrecruit and the North York Moors National Park Authority are equal opportunities employers, value diversity and are strongly committed to providing equal employment opportunities for all employees and all applicants for employment.
