Title: Design Manager Location: WarwickshireIndustry: NuclearSalary: £Negotiable Overview: We are currently recruiting for an hands on Design Manager for our client’s new site in the West Midlands area. The role will be responsible for the oversight and successful execution of design engineering projects, technical tender preparations and tender design estimates to schedule and within budget. Additionally, with the Engineering & Projects Director, responsible for the management, development and recruitment of the Company’s West Midlands based engineering resource. The role will be hands on and working with hand calculations along with managing the team and supporting with the documentations.Reporting relationship:

Key Aims & Objectives:

Management of the engineering resource under the direction of the Engineering & Projects Director and in consultation with the Head of Projects

Development and recruitment of the West Midlands based engineering resource, potentially including interns and apprentices

Management of the technical delivery of a suite of projects to programme and budget

Peer review of concept designs, 3D CAD scheme designs, detailed manufacturing drawings and design substantiation by hand calculations.

Prime Responsibilities and Duties:

Day to day management of the technical aspects of projects

Day to day management of the Company’s West Midlands based technical resource

Production of the technical aspects and estimates for tenders

Peer review of engineering output

Substantiation (by hand calculation) of engineering designs

Development and recruitment of the engineering resource

Job Description – Engineering Manager: The ability to be a hands-on SolidWorks design asset if, and when, required.

Assist in general clerical and administrative duties to ensure the smooth running of the West Midlands Engineering Department.

Required Skills:

Demonstrable track record in engineering design management

Demonstrable track record in people management, recruitment, motivation and development

Demonstrable track record in engineering design using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD

Technical and commercial acumen

Very strong mechanical engineering (or similar) background

Exposure to, and understanding of, a wide range of manufacturing processes

Qualifications:

Minimum of a Degree, HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or similar

Chartered Engineer IMechE, ideally a fellow is highly desirable

Significant experience and references in engineering activities in a highly regulated environment
