Job Description

My client over the last 60 years has built up a UK wide property portfolio covering some of the highest profile addresses in the UK. From residential to commercial property, from development sites to the rental market they have a diverse and interesting income stream that continues to grow and develop.While they will retain the services of their external accountancy firm they are looking to bring some of the accounts function in house and as such are looking for an experienced and confident bookkeeper/ accountant to take responsibility for:

  • Bank: Weekly bank reconciliations on current account and interest account, including uploading of backup paperwork. This will include the reconciliation of debtor and purchase ledger transactions along with direct debits, standing orders, etc.
  • Purchases: input invoices including scanned copies of invoices, match invoice to relevant purchase orders, expenses (including credit card expenses), produce supplier payments listings, send remittances as required, deal with supplier enquiries and checks, reconcile supplier accounts to statements as received and work with suppliers on any variances, balance ledger monthly.
  • Rental/ Sales: process receipts from bank reconciliations; adjust to balance nominal accounts, balance debtors ledger monthly.
  • General ledger: maintain nominal ledger codes / list, input journals, recurring entries, accruals / etc.
  • VAT Return: entering relevant VAT codes on transactions to ensure accurate VAT return to be reviewed by accountant.
  • As this is a property company and it is a standalone role within the business you must have worked in a similar role for a property/ development company or an estate agent that has managed a property portfolio. As a person you must be a self-starter who takes pride in your work and can think around problems and be willing to contribute to the team as a whole to improve the systems and processes. That is not to say that support is not there, it very much is. However, it does require somebody who feels that are on familiar territory when it comes to this work in this kind of industry.It is a great opportunity for somebody to take on a position and make the role their own.
