Job Description

Residential Support Worker at a secure childrens homeStart Date: ASAPHours: There are a variety of hours and shifts to suit you.Rates: £11.50 per hour. Plus 7% shift allowance.About the Role:To ensure the physical environment of the Home meets the required standards of cleanliness for the needs of the Home and residents and to meet National Standards for Childrens Homes.Training, DBS and referencing will need to be completed.Opus, on behalf of Peterborough County Council are looking to recruit temporary residential support workers. Working through Opus, you will provide direct care to young people receiving residential care with the necessary support, care, guidance and be apositive adult role model. To act in a professional, parental (loco parentis legal responsibility of a person or organization to take on some of the functions and responsibilities of a parent) capacity towards these young people, whilst sharing this responsibility(and supplementing it where necessary) with the young persons own family and local authority. To ensure that each child and young person consistently maximises their potential.This is a key role demanding an excellent standard of awareness of any special requirements associated with younger people and specific needs.Key Objectives:

  • Act as a key worker for a particular young person/s as directed by senior staff including acting as an appropriate role model, advising, and acting as an advocate, to ensure that they receive appropriate levels and standards of individual care and supportthat will meet their primary needs. This will include but is not limited to; Clothing shopping, toiletry shopping, making, and ensuring health appointments are attended and recorded, ensuring key work sessions take place etc.
  • Maintain standards of recognised good practice at all times when dealing with young people by establishing purposeful and constructive relationships and appropriate role modelling so as to assist with the development of their life and social skills andage-appropriate independence.
  • respond to the young people resident in a courteous and helpful way. To keep all details of work within the service confidential.
  • Communicate and engage with children so that their stay in the Home is purposeful and enjoyable. This includes organising and participating in appropriate activities for the young people.
The skills and qualities we look for include:
  • Knowledge of Child Protection issues and procedures.
  • Ability to build/maintain positive relationships.
  • Ability to work with individuals who display challenging forms of behaviour.
  • Have an ability to interpret and respond appropriately to a range of emotions and behaviours.
  • Health and physical wellbeing must allow for: - Safe holding and restraints - All driving duties (including driving for long periods) - Physical activities with the children and young people.
