Job Description

IT Support TechnicianClyde - Faslane Marine Training SF30862 About the roleProvide technical support for the Astute Training Facility (ATF) restricted network in accordance with ATF/ Information Systems (IS) services procedures and relevant Mod security policies.You will ensure that assigned IS Service Desk Support Calls are responded to and completed within the timescales laid down in the Astute Training Facility (ATF) and Pathfinder Bridge Navigation Trainer Information Systems (IS) Service Level Agreements (SLA), and in accordance with IS Procedures. You will investigate and attempt diagnoses, fault repair and resolution of assigned Service Desk Incidents, Problems, and Change Requests. To escalate significant IT issues and problems to the IT Technical Team Lead as required.Other responsibilities include:

  • To liaise with internal and external support groups, and other organisations, regarding maintenance and support issues
  • To raise procurement requests in accordance with Babcock Flagship procedures
  • To provide technical support at 2nd and 3rd Line position for all Servers, desktops, printers, projectors and associated equipment, with specialist 3rd Line Support on the SharePoint environment. To support the maintenance and upgrade of all Servers, desktops, printers, projectors and associated equipment in accordance with IS Procedures.
  • To assist the IT Technical Team Lead or IT Support Technician in projects as directed.
  • To test and install Hardware and software in accordance with IS procedures and Documentation.
  • To conduct hardware and software asset audits as directed. To cleanse all IS equipment of data prior to return to disposal.
  • What do I need to do the roleYou must have knowledge and experience of the following:
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012, 2016
  • Advanced knowledge of VMware vSphere 6.5 & above (including vCentre and ESXi)
  • Understanding of Exchange Server 2010 and above
  • MOSS 2013, 2016 Microsoft Projects Server.
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2014.
  • Infrastructure services including Dynamic Client Host Protocol (DHCP), Domain Naming Service (DNS) networking. Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)/Internet Protocol (IP) routing and switching.
  • You will also require a strong understanding of IT security and related policies.
  • Finally, you will need understanding of the following:
  • Data protection and risk management.
  • ITIL and the IT service lifecycle.
  • Server and client applications: Systems Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM), Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).
  • Microsoft SharePoint, site development and administration desirable
  • Microsoft Project Server
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications (Excel/Access)
  • Defence sector experience
  • Commercial awareness
  • Audio / Visual Systems Configuration
