The team provides a centre of expertise for subsea activities and marine operations including; towage, underwater engineering, automated and remotely operated underwater vehicles, wrecks management and moorings. SALMO is comprised of marine specialists including Master Mariners, Marine Engineers, Naval Architects, Environmental Scientists, ROV pilots, Divers, Project Managers, Commercial and Finance Officers, supported by an experienced Business Management Team.Operations are highly varied, with exciting projects including salvage assistance to damaged surface vessels the location of aircraft on the sea-bottom, survey of WWII wrecks, towage of warships and submarines, emergency response preparedness exercises and underwater engineering support to rectify defects on Navy platforms overseas. While not on operations we focus on ensuring readiness by maintaining equipment and improving our own skillsets through training. Our team is flexible, highly trained and multi-skilled and we are ready to respond at short notice worldwide. This provides the very exciting opportunity for global travel for the successful candidate, with recent deployments including Singapore, Japan and Bahrain.Sounds interesting but you are worried you don’t have the experience All you need to apply is a qualification in Electrical Engineering to the level of the 18th Edition. DE&S will provide you with the necessary training and help you on your journey to becoming an experienced operator.ResponsibilitiesIf successful in this role, you will act as the electrical safety focal point within the salvage team and be responsible for the day to day management of all aspects of electrical maintenance and supervision both ashore and afloat. You will have the opportunity for regular deployments within the UK, abroad and afloat, leading as a focal point of the salvage team instilling best practice in operations as well as the shore-based management role. Duties include equipment preparation, operational planning and documentation, Safe systems of work, HSE regulation and system maintenance plus associated review.This is a Safety Delegated post and includes the ongoing development and maintenance of the Safety Case, standard operating procedures and safety management systems. You may on occasion, be called upon to engage in other diverse activity to support both SALMO and wider Defence outputs.You will also be required to enlist as an RN Sponsored Reserve.In order to be successful in this role you must:• Hold Electrical Qualifications; 18th Edition• Be fit to pass and maintain a 2 yearly ENG1 seafarers medical & an annual Diving Medical.• Full UK Driving License• Qualify as an HSE surface supplied diver within 12 months of appointment.It will be beneficial to have:• Management Experience• HSE Commercial Air Diver/Supervisor• Relevant experience in a Marine environment• Marine Ops &/or Salvage Experience.• STCW Seafarer Qualifications• Experience/licenses of vehicle handling and trailer towing, Forklift truck, Class C, CEIf you are successful at interview and receive a conditional letter of employment, you will be required to pass the following medical examinations: HSE Divers medical and the MCA Seafarers Medical (ENG 1). If you have no prior commercial diving experience, you will also be required to undertake a dive aptitude test which will be funded by SALMOCurrent SALMO Retained Grade (RG) Term and Conditions (TACOS) will apply, which are under review.The Terms and conditions within the SALMO team differ from the DE&S standard TACOS and are detailed in the SALMO team handbook which is currently under revision.The three material differences between our standard terms and those for the SALMO team are below:• Travel and overtime payments are consolidated into the base pay detailed above• There is an element of overtime required in this role which is also consolidated into base pay• SALMO retained grade employees are entitled to 1 days’ leave for 7 days deployedTravel to Work Location (currently 45 mins)Please note this post is open to Sole UK Nationals only.Whats in it for youYou will receive a generous benefits package including market leading employer pension contributions of around 21% of your salary (not including any personal contribution), annual bonuses, a flexible working pattern to fit you, 25 days holiday +1 additional day every year you work up to 30 days with plenty of opportunity for movement and promotion.
