Job Description

Fixed Term ContractWere currently seeking Laboratory Analysts based in Plymouth to work within a state of the art, high output diagnostics laboratory environment as part of the UKs NHS Test and Trace programme.As well as playing a vital role in supporting societys return to a more normal way of life by helping to break the chains of COVID-19 transmission, you will also gain invaluable experience and exposure to some of the countrys most highly skilled individuals in the scientific community.This represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to go above and beyond to support public health, while also extending your already accomplished technical skills and positioning your Scientific career for further success and growth.Your ResponsibilitiesYou will be Interpreting highly complex data to whilst using the labs IT system to verify and confirm results for COVID-19 test results.On a daily basis, you will be analysing Real Time PCR data, which has been generated by the clinical laboratory team to provide results of the COVID-19 diagnosis.You will provide assurance to the Laboratory Senior Management team, through data analysis of the credibility of test results produced within the laboratory daily.One of your primary responsibilities will be working alongside the Laboratory Shift Manager & Lead Scientist in the management of the laboratory.To be responsible for the production of all standing operational procedures, protocols and policies within the section, and ensure that they are maintained, reviewed and updated when necessary.In order to be successful, youll need the following education, experience and skills:Qualifications:

  • Educated to BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent qualification acceptable to the Institute of Biomedical Sciences and the Health Professions Council for registration.
    • Experience:As a Lab Analyst, you will have extensive experience in an understanding of the meaning of results to enable authorisation and appropriate action in dealing with abnormal or unusual results.A working knowledge and practical application of the departments IT systems.Experience in a laboratory preferably in molecular or microbiology.In addition, the following education and experience are also desirable but not mandatory:Education:
  • A willingness to undertake study leading to qualifications required for career advancement
  • State registration with Health Professions Council as a Biomedical Scientist.
