Job Description

Fixed Term ContractWere currently seeking Accessioning Shift Supervisors in Plymouth, to work within a state of the art, high output diagnostics laboratory environment as part of the UKs NHS Test and Trace program.As well as playing a vital role in supporting societys return to a more normal way of life by helping to break the chains of COVID-19 transmission, you will also gain invaluable experience and exposure to some of the countrys most highly skilled individuals in the scientific community.Your ResponsibilitiesThis opportunity for Laboratory Shift Supervisors requires individuals experienced in Molecular Biology methods. In this role, you will:Provide technical expertise to the project and provide end-to-end testing daily process management.Work closely with other senior roles to ensure that lab processes are carried out safely, efficiently, and to the standard required of the laboratory accreditation.Manage staff during your shift, including overseeing the effective management and assessment of training and ongoing competency assessments for staff in line with the laboratorys procedures.Be expected to create and review technical documents and SOPs compliant with the laboratorys accredited standards, as well as ensuring compliance with any other quality or health and safety requirements.In order to be successful, youll need the following skills and qualifications:Education:

  • BSc (Hons) in a Biological Science
    • Experience:
  • Extensive experience using a variety of PCR methods
  • Experience maintaining documents and procedures within laboratory accreditation specifications (ISO15189:2012 / ISO17025:2019)
  • Proven experience of managing people
  • Experience of training and supervising staff in a laboratory setting
    • In addition, the following education and experience are also desirable but not mandatory:Education:
  • Higher-level degree or professional qualification (eg MSc, Higher Specialist portfolio)
  • HCPC registered
    • Experience:
  • Experience of using liquid handling robots (e.g. TECAN liquid handling systems)
  • Experience of viral RNA testing using real-time (RT) PCR methodology
  • Extensive experience of supervising a team in a laboratory setting
  • Experience in using end-Point PCR methods
  • Experience of Health and Safety regulations and procedures
  • Experience working at containment level 2 or containment level 3
    • The skills required include the ability to troubleshoot PCR preparation processes and carry out appropriate corrective actions/investigations; ability to deliver and record training in accordance with the organisations procedures; excellent communication and extensive team-working skills; and excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.This represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to go above and beyond to support public health, while also extending your already accomplished skills and positioning your career for further success and growth.If this role meets your requirements and you hold the relevant level of experience and qualifications, please apply now!
