Job Description

Summary Were looking for a passionate Ranger to join our team at Flatford Bridge.The voice of our landscapes, conservation champions and lovers of all things outdoors, youll help to keep the British countryside and coast wonderful. Working in some of the nations most stunning places and spaces, come rain or shine, your love of theoutdoors will inspire others as you strive to ensure that landscapes are beautifully presented and continue to take our visitors breath away. What its like to work here Youll be primarily based at Flatford, a hamlet that lies in the heart of the beautiful Dedham Vale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty,managing many significant and iconic views across Constable Country. Time will also bespent across other sites within the portfolio, including Bourne Mill,a grade 1 listed building originally built as a fishing lodge in 1591 and converted to a mill,and Melford Hall, aTudor manor house built in the mid-16th century. As well providing a home for a variety of wildlife, several areas of thelandatFlatfordare used tograzelivestock, including sheep and cattle.Reporting to the Countryside Manager, youll be part of the Essex and Suffolk Countryside Team consisting of x2 Rangers, x1 Senior Gardener, and x1 Assistant Gardener. What youll be doing As a Ranger, youll help with the protection and care of habitats, wildlife, property and machinery, and your passion will inspire other to love this beautiful place as much as you do. Youll be the main local countryside contact for our graziers and neighbours as well as local contractors working across the site. Youll also manage a team of volunteers and develop the volunteering roles to assist with the tasks across the sites.Youll make sure that were delivering outstanding outdoors experiences and excellent conservation work. Youll share and promote the work we do here with customers and build relationships in the local community, proudly representing the National Trust.This will see you responding to queries and explaining the value of the work being undertaken. After all, your passion and dedication could fire the imagination that makes a visitor become a supporter for the rest of their life.We are looking for somebody with experience in countryside conservation and looking for somebody with training in chainsaws and possibly tractors, but there is scope for training to build and develop skills.In this role, youll work some weekends, bank holiday and evenings and being on-call.Please also read the full role profile, attached to this advert. Who were looking for Youll need to;

  • Deliver practical conservation work to protect and enhance the conservation status of the property
  • Demonstrate a passion for nature, heritage and the outdoors
  • Demonstrate experience in a land, access and conservation management
  • Be able to engage with visitors to ensure they understand the value of your work
  • Be enthusiastic with a willingness to learn and ability to work well in a team
  • Be able to work safely, with risk assessments and compliance with safety procedures
  • Competence with machinery and equipment as well as having the relevant certificates required
  • Due to the nature of this role, a full UK driving licence is required.
